I am having the exact problem as him & others are with this play disk. Just read "lod won't install". Many others have complained on alt.diablo newsgroups of this same problem. Please don't be so hasty to close a thread when IT IS A LEGIT PROBLEM>! thx for listening....

Posted by: JANNA

please repost with ur exact system specs. needed are motherboard model sound card make and model vid card make and model and cdrom make and model this problem sounds like a D2X incompatability problem

I apologize. A legit problem is one thing, but people asking for one specific file of a game rarely have good intentions. Not to mention that distributing any part of a game is illegal (piracy). That is why I closed the thread.

Also, even if he DID get the file, it wouldn't help, because he'd still have to install from the cd, and you can't change the file on a cd.

Actually thats where you are wrong. Blizzard actually posted this work around, it was not devised by himself.

AMD Thunderbird 1000 Mhz
Epox 8KTA3 (with latest bios)
256 MB Ram
Soundblaster Live (without Creative Liveware drivers)
Geforce 256 (with latest Nvidia drivers)
DirectX 8.0
WD 20GB Hdd

Those are specs from another guys machine that is having the exact same problems that I have posted - Sorry, I don't wanna climb up to the attic for my computer box (not yet anyway), but I know everything is recent & should be compatible. As I am going to post in the other thread - I will try another CD.

Just a note:

I would just like to mention that the d2music.mpq file is roughly 329MB in size. Although we would like to help you out as best as we can, making this file available for download will bring a couple of problems:

1.) It's huge - it's a hassle to upload, and it uses up too much space in our site.
2.) Making it available publicly might be a violation of Blizzard Entertainment's EULA. While we are anxious to help out, we don't want this site to break any licensing agreements.

ehmm...oops
I hope you haven't read that other post...

to nova.....It is a legit problem the only reason i asked for the file is because BLIZZARD told me (and this from the tech support page btw) that to get around the problem i was to copy the file D2MUSIC.MPQ from the diablo 2 play disk and paste it into the diablo 2 folder and that would help the install. My disk is not scratched or damaged it only seems to be with the one file....I had forgotten about the size of the file (i was getting desperate ) my disk plays fine both single player and mutiplayer it just will not let me install LoD....everytime i try to copy the file i get an access is denied message like i mentioned in the other thread if you go to blizzard.com tech page you will find many of us having the same problem...it sounds like something having to do with the game not the cd rom....i will go look at my specs and post them in a minute.... thanks..

Just out of curiosity, how much free space do you have on your target drive?

Posted by: Shadowherald

21.0 GB

Posted by: Chako

If so many people are having the same problems...and I do not doubt that for an instant. You would think Blizzard would post the file in question to their tech support site.

Posted by: Shadowherald

you would think so but they want us to send in money for a new disk instead got to get their money dont ya know....

Posted by: Null Actor

It's a piracy/copyright thing. If they were to post it on their site for free download, it would become freeware. As this file contains all the D2 music, I doubt they would want to do that.

Also, at almost 400 megs, it would be the second biggest public download ever. Or close to it.

Anyway... shadowherald, would you post the link to the story that you read about this issue on blizzard's site?

Posted by: Azgard

You are failing to understand the situation of this domain with licensing restrictions, allowing people to freely distribute copyrigted software through these forums could get them in trouble, and you seem to miss the fact that, in Blizzard it said copy from YOUR playdisk to folder, not from others.

Posted by: Chako

Ah I see….I did not know what the file in question pertained to, nor the size of it.

Posted by: CETORT

bah, this particular *fix* has been around since the original Diablo2 came out. it's just a way to try and speed up the access of some files instead of reading so much off the play disk. basically, the game is a huge resource hog and if a user doesn't have a fairly good system it's not going to make alot of difference. just another example of a company trying to find a *fix* for the users of their very badly produced product.

okay trhis is the page where they list all of the solutions they have...http://www.blizzard.com/support/ind...Action=Solution
