Im currently stuck in the forest temple. I have completed the game before a couple of years ago and thought id have another go but i just cant get past this particular bit. I have lit 2 of the tourches and covered the whole of the map apart from the right hand side on the 1st floor. im on the grass ledge where there is a chest and navi is hovering above on another ledge, i just cannot figure out how to get up there. and yes i have tried the hookshot? Can u help? its driving me mad!

i think there's a song you have to play.
Maybe the scarecrow song.

Isn't the Forest Temple the first or second one? I don't think you have the scarecrow song by then. Because you don't have to go to the lake until after the forest. Not sure, been quite awhile for me.
Edit: Are you in the temples or the dungeons as little Link still?

no i'm grown up link, i'v gone to the lake to get the scarecrow song but having difficulty getting it?

hold each note of the song oyurer gonna make up for 2 seconds each, thatll get the straw head to remember the song youre gonna make up.

I'm pretty sure you do not need the scarecrow song to progress through the game. You only need it to get secrets and such.

if its master quest you have to play song of time

It is not the scarecrow song. You have to go back in time to get it and you can't go back in time until you beat the forest temple. You just got to find some other small keys to get to the ledge a different way.
