CD Burning Problems

I have a Sony CD-RW CRX220E1 and I am running Windows XP. For about a month now my CD burner has not worked (it worked in the past), but not until now have I actually really needed it to work. Whenever I use my CD burner program (B's Gold Recorder 5, which came with the burner) it never writes on the disk. It realizes the disk is in the drive, but it never seems to write. It makes a sound like it is about to write and then it dies down and it goes through this cycle for about 2 or 3 minutes till the computer freezes. I have tried the RealOne Player burner but that does the same thing. I uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled and it did not fix the problem. What is wrong with this? What can I do to fix it? Thanks in advance.

Stop using piece of shit programs like those. Get the real stuff. Nero Burning Rom.

Well I just tried Nero and that didnt solve the problem. Even if my software is bad, it should still burn. Thats why I think there is a hardware issue/problem here. What can be done? Is it fixable?

what were the cirumstances when it stopped running? and did you try disc-at-once and try different media?

The burner started out being able to run at a full 52x writing speed. But over a couple months, we had to lower the speed to be able to get it to write at all. We dropped it from 52 to 48 to 32 on down and recently it just wont burn at all no matter how low a write speed I put it on. Im not sure what has caused this. Could it be the power supply? This is a pretty new and nice burner... I wouldnt have thought it would die out this quickly.

hmm... im clueless on this one, i have a sony dru-500ax dvd+rw/cd+rw burner, and ive had it for ahalf a year and it still wokrs fine,. maybe the laser lens on ur burner wore out.try taking it to a repair center tyo find out if theres a problem with the burner.

Something similar happened to me. Try a cleaning the CD lens by blowing some air into the CD drive with a pressurized air can. If that doesn't work try a format... If that doesnt work... buy a new CD-RW.

no way dont do the canned air you will push the lens more out of position, try going to a store and buying a cleaning cd, this might help exfoliate anything off the lens, did you try disc-at-once and not track-at-once?
