Gah, man, i'm not getting around to posting nearly as much as I used to/want to. Damn school. 5 Honors/AP classes keepin me right busy.
Okay, so I've got a new external hard drive, and I plugged it in. It then gave me the following message "HI-SPEED USB Device Attached to non-HI-SPEED Hub". I have an ASUS P4C800 deluxe, and unless there's some huge scam i'm not aware, of, its supposed to support USB 2.0. USB 2.0 (Full Speed) is enabled in the bios, so whats wrong?
thanks guys.

have you read the manuals, tried a different port, and checked on the support sites of both?

Figured it out. It seems that theres some sort of distinction between "Full Speed" and "HI SPEED", and that full speed is 12 MB/S and HI Speed is 480 MB/S. Honestly, whoever the hell thought up this terminology needs to be castrated.
Or possibly uh...spayed.

No, you were right with castrated. IEEE has decided to redo the naming system of USB 2.0 in order to avoid this sort of mishappening in the future. See, USB 2.0 only means that it has to be 12 mbps complaint. High-Speed USB means that it must run at the maximum transfer speed. In order to keep consumers from being cheated by less honest vendors, IEEE decided to rename the system. Now USB 1.1 as in 12 mbps or less is simply called USB. The fastest possible devices are now called USB highspeed instead of USB2.0. So next time you are buying as USB product, keep that in mind.
