Boot problem with ASUS A7V Motherboard and Win XP
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have a motherboard A7V, athlon 900, 256 Mb RAM, Prophet 2GTS Videocard. And I managed to install Win XP Pro on a Westrn Digital 80G HD. I had some troubble to get it to boot as it was so I upgraded the BIOS after the installation. From 1003 to 1011. That worked fine. But now when I try to boot the system up I get a blue screen right when XP swithches video modes and "XP PRO booting up"-screens should show.
Heres what I've tried.
1. Repair the system using the original XP CD running, Fixboot, chkdsk /r, bootcfg.
2. Changing the bios info "graphics bios" from PCI to AGP and back, Changing the performance from "Optimal" to "normal", that's what got the system booting when using BIOS 1003.
Well since I got the system running once I think this is a Bios configure issue and not a hardware error, but if anyone has any experience with hardware errors, please let me know about them to.
Things I been suggested that I can't do since I can't get the past the "XP" screen.
1. Update the video driver, Can't start in VGA mode
2. Update the Promise ATA 100 driver.
3. Update windows, Well that I have, Got SP 1 installed the ONE time I got the system running.
4. changing back to BIOS 1003.
Any Ideas how to configure the BIOS so I atleast can start in VGA mode?
System spec again.
Motherboard: ASUS A7V Bios 1011, rev 1.02
900Mhz, athlon
256 Mb, 100MHz RAM
Prophet 2 GTS , 32 Mb Video card
Realtek 10/100 network card.
A-open 300W power supply
Western digital 80G HD 7200rpm
Pioneer DVD slot in.
anyone using A7V and XP pro?
SOLVED!
Thanks for the suggestions! ... sorry to disapoint you LeechmachiNe but I wasen't happy with your contribution at all! So FU! ...
If it helps anyone esle the solution was that I had a faulty RAM that I replaced. After that it has worked fine. It was the D0 channel in second chip that had fried. The previous owner dident care too much about static electricity. Well my 0$ computer has worked fine now for about a year.

If it were me, I would reformat the hard drive and reinstall the OS. If problems continued, I would add more ram, and buy a new video card.

first, try reflashing the bios. then just try resetting it. i wouldnt throw more money into that computer, its too old. start yanking out devices, starting with the network card and dvd drive.
if you can get it running again, download all the xp updates, not just sp1.

Tor,
Try turning off ACPI and power management in the BIOS. The new BIOS version may support this by default and the OS may have been installed as a NON-ACPI OS.
LeechmachiNe,
Don't hijack somebody's thread if you don't have something to contribute.
