I have a new GeFORCE FX5600, because I was having probLems with my GeFORCE2 (...I thought...) but it seems that the nVIDIA cards don´t go well with my ASUS Motherboard A7V-133, and perhaps with my AMD Athlon XP1600+ aLso...
A year ago everything was fine, but now there´s this "updates" this new "drivers", "patch files"...etc.
Now it seems that to play/use new programs we have to "upgrade" everything...ok...no probLem...but tell US !!!! WHAT DO I NEED TO DO !? ...and I know I´m not the onLy ONE ( http://www.driverforum.com/video4/508.html )and( http://www.opentechsupport.net/forums/showthread.php?threadid=17840 )
if u thiNk I´d better buy the A7V8x Motherboard instead, (because of the AGP and because of the better performance with my AMD processor) TELL ME IF YOU PLEASE ! (this is a desperate and tired guy writing) THANKS FOR YOUR SITE.

I´m sorry, I posted thOse links abOut others with the same kiNd of pRobLem...

Or whenever a game such as GP3, or Medal of hoNor starts a race/shootiNg it turNs bLack aLso, aNd the CPU running still...
My CPU
AMD Athlon XP1600+
ASUS Motherboard A7V-133

i have an older asus (k7m), same ram config, and i bought an impulse buy nvidea 5200, the same thing happens to me with the video output just halting. i just thought it was a sucky card. but our cards do share the same drivers, so it could be that.

Ok this is abit off topic, but are you seriously running a xp1600 on an Asus A7v133 ? As it is right now I have the same board and the max it will currently support is a 1Ghz. I've been putting off updating the bios as there hasnt been a need for it and when it comes to my computer the current philosophy is if aint broken leave the damn thing alone lol, but if there's a bios update that will let me smack the processor upto a Xp1600 would defintely be worth it in comparison to my current 1Ghz Duron
Also I run a GeForce 3 ti200 Vid card with mine and havent noticed any conflicts.

weLL...my fRiend, what I´ve got is what u read.
the onLy thiNg I can do to prove it, is priNting my scReen to you. (see attached file)
you can see by the nOrton system iNformation and the xp informatioN what I have installed.
(u must know that a xp1600+ is really a 1.4, but they named it like that)
I have this CompuTer for ~2 yeaRs nOw and I didn´t touch it siNce I bought this new nVIDIA FX5600 this week.
I bought it because I was hOpiNg the "caNcer" was from nVIDIA...but it isn´t...
I know the probLem is not "our" HardwaRe but the faCt that these comPanies doN´t give "us" the proPer heLp and soLutioNs !
the aLways growiNg worLd of iNformaTics shouLd be supporTed bY this kiNd of coMpanies...WITH COMPETENCE !

On a more serious note, here's a long shot in the dark:
Make sure you're running your video card at resolutions and refresh rates that your monitor can handle. Generally you're not supposed to be able to run at refresh rates or resolutions higher than that which your monitor can handle (unless you have a program that does it), but there's a slight chance that your monitor drivers aren't properly installed (or installed at all), which may allow for such things to happen.
So try running your games at a lower resolution (to offset any refresh rate that may be too high) and see if the same thing happens.

in the case of mine, i think the entire system is locking up, the caps locks etc dont work. my montior has an (out of range) warning, if that would happen. in the case of the 5200 card it says (no signal). my manufacturer of the card is PNY. whats your's leech?

SHOULDN´T I BE ABLE TO PLAY GAMES AS I WISH ?
****YEEESSS****
