Zip Drives How To Install What The Cost Would Be

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I require some assistance with my computers and was hoping that you could
help me out.

We recently purchased some new ZIP drives for our computers. We have never
really employed a tech support department and have often looked for outside
help for assistance with things like this. We need to have these drives
installed and be able to take advantage of the following features:

1. The drives must be portable. I would like to be able to transport these
drives from station to station for immediate and instant use.
2. Some of these drives may serve as backup devices and we would like to set
up a timed backup to work with these if possible

I would appreciate a response from you as soon as possible, with a time and
cost estimate to complete the install of 16 ZIP drives, 4 of which will be
permanent and 12 which will be portable. I look forward to hearing from
you soon.

Regards,

Frank

The question which you are asking is rather dificult to reply to. In order to provide a reasonable estimate, and answer you need to provide a bit more information.
1. To what OS are these ZIP drives going to be runing in conjunction?
2. What type of ZIP drives are they?
3. What kind(s) of computers?
4. Are they in the same place?

internal zip drives are not portable. external ones are. any person that operates a modern computer and can read directions can hook up an external one in 5 min or less.

although why people dont buy flash drives now is beyond me.

ZIP DRIVES are to be installed with windows 98. These zip drives are
iomega 250mb drives. The drives must be portable. I would like to be able to transport these
drives from station to station for immediate and instant use.
2. Some of these drives may serve as backup devices and we would like to set

if you bought external zipdrives, they are already portable. if you bought internal ones, they cannot be portable.

we cannot give you costs on labor. ask whoever it is you use to give you a cost estimate. if you bought 4 internal, and 12 usb zip drives, plan an about 2 hours of on-site labor.

timed backups would only work on the internal drives, since they are permanent. the computers without a permanent zip drive will have to be backed up manually, or use another method.

For the record, zip drives are extremely unreliable, and I'd recommend you don't use them for anything important, since the disks regularly corrupt themselves and their data.
