high memory VS. graghics card?

I am still doing research on the laptop I am trying to play. The model I am looking at has the capability to handel 1 gig of ram. But it has only a 64 mb shared video card. If I am interested in playing games like halo pc and counterstrike, would the abundance of ram help make up for the deficincy of a none shared graghics card? Also I am planning on getting a amd athlon xp m 2600+ processor with sxga+; will that be cost effective. Any ideas would be much appreciated. thanks.
