color profile wipped out

All the color profiles on my computer disappeared after downloading some sort of driver. The only settings left were color 16 and color 2...we reinstalled Gateway WIN 98 SE version..everything come up but the color settings. Any suggestions as to what might be wrong and how to fix it would be appreciated. Thanks

The video driver is likely shot. Video drivers can easily be corrupted in win98 by simple driver downloads. Check for yellow bangs in device mgr, remove any bangs and reboot. If still having problems you may need to reinstall video drivers with original drivers disk. There are many ways to reinstall video drivers in win 98. Also, installing windows on top of itself without reformatting (starting over) is more of a last resort type of thing.

Find out what video card you have, then go out to the website of your video card manufacturer. You will be able to download the correct drivers from the manufacturer's website.
