Partial powerup- new power supply

I have a compaq presario desktop 5430US P4. The power supply died. I replaced it with the correct power supply aquired from compaq. I installed it and made sure that all the connections were correct and plugged it in. The ps is working, cpu fan is working. The power light is on. There are lights on the motherboard as well as the CDRW (though I cannot open it). There are NO lights on the floppy drive or the DVD drive, and the hard drive does not appear to be working (no noise or light). The keyboard is not working (usb connection), nor is the moniter. Needless to say, the machine will not boot up. The only thing that I can test on my other PC (amd k6-2, aptiva, ps/2 connection) is the moniter, which is working fine. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this?

its probably the power supply or the motherboard. the cd drive should open as long as it has power. have the power supply tested locally.

Thanks, I found a post on the Compaq support board that was almost identical to my problem. They said that when the original power supply died, it probably caused a surge in the motherboard, so it should be replaced. Now the question is, does anyone know if the motherboards in presarios are proprietary? the lowest price I found was 193.00 for the replacement part (267258-002). Thanks for any help.

i do believe they are proprietary. even if not, if the mobo got a surge, so did everything else, including the cpu, ram, hard drive, etc. before paying anywhere near that amount, id make sure everything else was in working order.
