GTA3 : I installed the patch and still slowdown

But what other games are you playing? GTA3 is pretty graphic heavy, a GeForce2 doesnt cut it.

yeah you'll need a radeon 9800 pro 256mb, 1 GB PC 3200 ram, and a pentium 4 3.2 Ghz w/ 800 FBS to play that game smoothly

as with playing any game, better pc performance the better it'll play, you don't need such high specification to play gta3 but would help hugely. Now your complaint, it reminds of when i tried to play monkey island with out a dedicated graphics card, 8 mb on board and would'nt even draw a picture properly, the writing inperticular was in block form, no way at all of deciphering it, sounds similar to your complaint, running out of steam if you ask me, overheating is a possibility too as was said.
up grade your system, need some thing better than that for sure.

Yes, but for first few minutes (15 minutes or so) it runs pretty smoothly. Then it suddenly slows down. it is totally random. Once I played nearly an hour but no probs. But sometimes it slows down almost instantly.

just thinking here, is it your hard drive that might be the problem?, just a guess, getting old?
