Update on Messenger nag box

Some of you may recall my earlier problem with a nag box that I couldn't get rid of after attempting to upgrade to MSN Messenger v.6. I did uninstall the upgrade, to no avail. I then searched through the files for the previous v. 4.6 to uninstall, but XP wouldn't allow me to do that (or even just to delete the file), claiming that there were programs in use that required v. 4.6 to be installed!
[-- an interesting requirement, as I attempted to delete the file after a fresh boot, no other programs running except NAV in the background, and I wasn't connected to my ISP.  ]
Anyway, I finally decided to re-upgrade to v.6, but NOT via the nag box. That appears to have done the trick, at least insofar as getting rid of the nag box ... but now I have TWO little Messenger icons in my tray when I boot up, one apparently for v.6 and the other for good old v.4.6! (sigh...)
Seriously, thanks to everyone who offered helpful suggestions!
