CD burner speed and XP

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have a Dell Dimension computer running XP and a DVD/CD ROM 24X combo drive on my system. I wanted to install a second faster 52X CD burner. I bought a 52X TDK from Dell, and the burner worked, but it would only read at 10X. I called TDK (no help), Nero (no help) and Dell(no help).

Dell stated that this is a known problem with XP and there is nothing they can do, it's Microsoft's problem and there is no patch... we did everything they told us, even went way over and above checking everything, no dice.

Any info? I just want a faster CD burner drive that will work! I bought a second TDK drive before and it worked just fine on my 98 machine...

help!

I use windows 2000 and have had no such problem. Does it not allow you to choose a faster speed before you burn the cd in Nero? There should be a pulldown menu that allows you to manually choose the speed.
