some interesting IP quiz

this is something very interesting ( atleast for me it is!) geeks would like to think about.

I have two win 2K systems, one having an IP address ( anything, suppose, 10.0.0.2) and other one having 192.168.0.X . now, if i use the IP address of one machine as a gateway on the other computer and IP of second machine as a gateway on first machine, both machines are capable of transmitting ( ping) data to and fro, regardless of subnets, subnet masks, or ip addresses, the only condition to be fulfilled is , make one machines IP address as a gateway in the next machine and vice versa..

Is anybody have suggestions how it is working? ( kane, you might have any powerfull solution....)

When the destination address isn't on the same subnet, the packet gets sent through the gateway.

What he said.

It probably wouldn't work on 3 computers unless you have IP forwarding enabled. Then it becomes quite a mess.

Thanks for the vote of confidence.
