HELP XP won't open task manager

Lately i when i press ctrl + Alt + del. the hour glass appears for a few seconds but than just stops and task manager won't open, also some scan programs like stop sign and spybot won't open either but than others work fine suck as nero burner, mcafee and some others, HELP.
