Gamecube no disc error

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

My Gamecube has stopped working for no reason. I took out a game and was going to play another, but decided not to. I tried to play the next day, I put in the disc and turned it on. It went to the calendar/stereo/memory card screen. It says no disc. Insert disc. I have tried other discs in the system. None of them work. I have no idea what happened. I do not abuse my Gamecude. I have not dropped it. I called Nintendo and they said my warrenty had expired and I would have to get it fixed. I said why should I pay almost $80.00 to have it fixed when a new one is $99.00. She said if I bought a new one I would get another 1 year warrenty. She was quite rude about it.My Gamecube is not even 2 yrs old. I have had a Playstation 1 since it came out and have never had any problems with it. It's very frustrating. I would like to know if any one has any ideas of what I can do to hopefully get it fixed. Thank you.

Clark

your laser got out of the sweet spot to focus on the disc. it happens with dvd disc lasers some times.

So how can I fix it? Do I really have to send it in and pay almost $80.00 to have it looked at? I'm desperate, but I can't afford that. Any ideas? I could really use some help.

well honestly, you could attempt to fix it yourself, and it wouldnt affect how much you have to pay to get it fixed. this is one common approach to fixing it.

Yes, I've already looked there. I looked at my disc and it does not appear to tilt to one side. Nothing seems or looks broken. Maybe I'll drop kick it out my window and be done w/it. Thanks for all your help. I'm just so mad/dissapointed in the crappy workmanship that Nintendo makes. I wish they would get their act together. It should not stop working for no reason. I mean it's under 2 yrs old. that should not happen.

Thanks anyway ,

Clark

there a 95% chance its the laser not being perfectly aligned, those instructions are a little extreme. you cant always see the tilt. it could be the distance of the laser.

So then is there a way to align it myself? Or do I really have to pay an arm and a leg to get it fixed? I could any help you can offer. Thanks,

Hey...

I'm having the same problems as the parent with my cubegames... except..

I dont have a gamecube :-|

http://www.lik-sang.com/image.php?c...asonic-gamecube

Now...

I know I haven’t dropped the thing... so I doubt anything could be broken?

The device is front loading like all standard dvd drives (its a dvd player also) so I dont really wanna take it to bits :-|

I haven’t tried using a cd cleaner... I'm not sure it it will work though?
does anyone have an idea whither it will use 2 lasers or not?

The problem used to only occur rarely using the action replay disc... then it started moving onto other games intermittently....

now alas, the problem is less intermittent and more permanent...

point I'm making is that this seems to have happened slowly over time... once the disc does read it usually works fine for the remainder of the game... although to get it to read now I have to eject... eject... eject..

machine is out of warranty now though...

just about to try a dvd... although I usually use my pc for that...

shame Panasonic have just stopped production of them... machine has sourround sound, bass type thingy, plays mp3s, optical connections, svideo and most of the usual features of a HIGH end dvd player...

quality of picture and features in menu really knocked the ps2/xbox for six... (notice the word knock in the past tense lol)

I want my Qube back !!!!

if anyone can help or suggest I'd be muchly appreciative !!!

thanks

Ian.

That sounds exactly like the problems the PS1 and PS2 has with failing cd drives. In the PS1 it was usually an issue with the plastic becoming hot in the cd drive, gradually losing its original shape. So what you had was a slowly less and less reliable console..Memories of a Playstation one standing on it's side come to mind. Strangely prophetic.

With the PS2 I believe something similiar occured, but what exactly escapes me at the moment. Sometimes you could put some sort of tape around the outer edge of the inner circle of the DVD/CD, adjusting it's position slightly when in the drive. It would work sometimes.

Anyway the final solution was to replace the unit or the drive, several websites sprang up offering to do that for a fee.

Im new and this is my first post here.

I have the panasonic gamecube. Technically its my brothers. I just tried playing a game just today, since i was bored, and the thing just didnt wanna play it. I thought I accidentally broke it but I then tried playing a DVD and it works. I hope someone can find an easier way to fix it that the methods mentioned above.

Im so stupid. There was nothing wrong with the gamecube. My bro just came home and reminded me that there is a procedure that I needed to to do in order to play american games on the cube. It now works, sorry for posting here.
