Well, I blew one of my PC Speakers the other day.
Can anyone recommend a good speaker system for PC that is reasonably priced?
Edit: I'm looking for something that has a sub, more than two speakers, and a decent power level on the speakers.
Anyone?

Logitech Z-640.
This site has them for $35, their usually $50 to $65.

Damn. That's certainly a reasonable price. Now, what do you think of the quality of that set?

Again, I reccomend the creative itrigues, as they have the best sound from a 2.1 system i've ever heard. See previous speaker posts for details.

Im with fibbi. The I-Trigues are the best for the least given the current market. I would not recomend the z-640s. I find them to be lacking in both quality and volume. If you are looking for a 4.1 or 5.1 set, grab the THX certified z-680s or z-560s. While not as cheap as what was previously recomended, they are much better.
I-Trigues- 3300s $50-90
L3500s $80-110
z-680s- $199
.z-560s-$119

What do you think of the Creative Inspire 6.1 set or any of the Altec Lansing offerings?
I found the Z-560s and really like what I see. I've also talked to someone else who has heard them and he recommended them as well. However, the total output of the system is 400W but it doesn't say anything about an amp built into the sub. I suppose my question is: is there one? I don't know if I want to by an amp for a PC Speaker set.
Edit: I'm told that all PC systems have an amp built in. Confirm? Refute?

I know a guy with the Logitechs, probably the 560 or 580, and he loves them, and he loves loud music....RATM, crystal method, metallica...etc.
I'm pretty sure all computer speakers have an amp built in, as every sound card that I've ever seen doesn't have the power built in to drive much more than a pair of headphones.
I put together my own computer speaker system, from 2 sets of Altec Lansing speakers that came from gateway computer systems circa 1996. Had one pair from the old gateway, bought another 2 pairs off of ebay for $9 brand new, and then built a subwoofer from a kit. To say the least, it sounds bad ass But probably more work than anybody else wants to do

Based on several recommendations, I think I'm going to get the 560s, though, its still up in the air in case something else comes along.
I'd really like to get the Z680 5.1 seen here as it has digital inputs, easily connects to game systems, but, that's just too much money to spend.

Why not the 640's? There the same as the 560's, only more power + a center channel speaker. And their the same price, if not cheaper.
Posted by: Gunslinger
You're right about the 640s having a center channel speaker, but the 560s have have a much higher power output: 400W vs 71.2W.

Bleh, I misread. I thought you were talking about 540's. Damn companies and their similar named products. LOL.
560's are very nice

I agree. Too many numbers. Names work better.

i have z640. it rocks my small home. usually place my right foot on the top of subwoofer while playing games, then about in 10 mins, my foot goes numb. cant do that when i play music, cuz my foot will go numb in no time. bass is awesome. satellites are not exactly crystall clear, but it's crisp and loud enough for my room. never had any problem. i just love it.
at that price given above, i might get one more. i paid almost twice as much as that.
if you can afford 560, i suggest you get that one, cuz the difference in quality will be huge.

So I got the 560, and hooked it up tonight.
Of course, there will always be problems.
My problem: No sound out of the right front channel. None at all. From what I can tell, it's just a dud.
Sucks.

is that the one that blew on your other set?

I don't know about cheaper speakers...these that I have are useless. And when I want to listen to music it just isn't nice. So!
Does ANYONE know if there are any REALLY good speakers out for computers? I mean the kind that you can listen to music through and feel like you are in the recording room. Don't matter about price. Just give me an idea and I'll check up on it in Google.

klipsch makes the best computer speakers to my knowledge. pricey suckers, naturally. there are better ones for stereo and home theater use, but i think those are the high end comp speakers.
Posted by: SKYHN
Indeed, Klipsch is the almighty. Their best PC speakers are the ProMedia Ultra 5.1, which are 500watts(or more, I forget). They cost about $399.

It's one on the new set. It doesn't work. No sound. I'm going to be changing around the wires and hooking it up to other audio devices later tonight (if I have time) just to make sure that the speaker itself is the actual problem.
Posted by: Gunslinger
Well, I've determined that the speaker (or the wire it is connected too) is not the problem. It actually works just fine. I connected it to a different part of the sub (I switched the front right and front left satellites). What this did, was put sound out of the right satellite, but then the left became silent. The only thing consistent between the silent satellites is the point where they connect to the sub: that being the port labeled (right front). So essentially, that connection is busted.
Lame, yes, because the part that isn't working is the biggest and heaviest: weighing in at around 30 lbs. A pain to ship back to the manufacturer for a replacement.

I got a set of Z-560s... I love'em much better bang for the buck than the klipsch from what i could tell.
Posted by: Gunslinger
That was my thought too.....but I will never know with only 3 out of 4 satellites working.
