Big Problem

Whenever I start D2:LoD and try to go to the Char selection screen I get the following message.
Assertion Failure
Location : D2Win\Src\D2Comp.cpp, line #2879
Expression : nStackIndex < 64
This occurs in version 1.09 but not 1.10. Any solutions? (other than playing strictly 1.10)
