FFXI service free for ps2?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

When FFXI is released for ps2, will the online game service be free?

Posted by: Darky!

No.

Posted by: madman55

then how come it said that playonline would offer the service free on oct. 28 2003?

Posted by: SKYHN

Playonline itself, is free. The games however, are not they are subscription based.

Playonline has Chat, Instant Messaging, Email and a few other things. When you buy a playonline game, you must purchase a subscription to play it.

October 28th is the launch of Playonline, FFXI and Tetra Master for PC, not PS2. The PS2 launch is not until next year.

arnt some online games free?? like u can play tony hawk 4 online for free and stuff its just the MMO's like everquest and FFXI we gonna have to pay for right?

Posted by: SKYHN

Yes, MMO games will have a fee, and possibly EA sports games soon.

Posted by: madman55

ea sports too? that sucks. Besides if ffxi is comin out in january 2004, how could the service not start until next year from now?

Posted by: madman55

besides, why cant mmorpg just offer one subscription account that allows you to play any mmorpg's rather than having a different subscription account for each different game?

Posted by: Wacheif

maybe if every MMORPG was made by the same company that could work lol by the way the PS2 version of FF 11 is pushed back to March 2004 according to Square Enix website... and the PC version is still set for october 28th

I dont know where your getting your info from, but wherever it is, its wrong. The Playonline service has been up and running in Japan for a while now, it launches for PC in the U.S. in a few days with the launch of FFXI for PC, and for PS2 in January when FFXI comes out for PS2. FFXI for PS2 might even make it out sooner, I beta tested it and it was pretty solid, I saw very few bugs in it. And Tetramaster was pretty much bug free.

MMO's cant all have 1 fee for them all because they are made and run by different companies. And the running costs of the game would be too great to share 1 fee accross many games. The only way this would happen is with a company like SOE, where for $21.95 per month, you can play all their online games with just that 1 fee(that does not include SWG as that is owned by Lucas Arts).

EA Online games are exclusive to PS2(for consoles). Their very very popular(Madden being their biggest). The fee is supposed to be something like $5 to $10 per month and covers ALL EA sports online games. Non EA sports games online will still be free. I dont know if this will apply to PC as well.

i got that FF 11 for ps2 would be released in March at square-enix's offical site... why would they lie? O_o

- Edit - after reading what i said i think about the HL2 stuff LoL... ya but i dunno maybe they said march just to be safe... i dunno... i just know thats what it said

Posted by: SKYHN

Im not saying its set in stone for a January release, as I dont work for square, but I would say its very likely to be out by then, as that is when the PS2 hard drive is being released. I dont see any reason why they would hold it back, the beta was very solid, i felt like i was playign a finished product.

Xbox live > all

Posted by: madman55

hmm... would they sell pre-paid subscribed account cards in stores for ffxi?ex: 30 days pre-paid for $20. i know they sell those account cards for everquest. (im talking about the cards being for the ps2 version.

Posted by: madman55

its just that id rather buy the pre-paid account card rather than giving out my account information online. besides im only gonna do this with one mmorpg just to see how it is.

Planning on playing True Fantasy Online? How about the $14.95 fee along with it in addition to the Xbox Live fees?

The time cards for FFXI are gonna be out when the game launches for PS2. I dont believe they have plans for them to be out with the PC version.

I read in PSM that FFXI is going to come installed on the PS2 Hard drive when it arrives in March. The first month of play will be free, followed by a $12.95/month subscription after that.

Posted by: Wacheif

it will be installed on the HD but not till you like install the game onto the external HDD ya firrst month of pay is free bu the fee is actually $13 a month... for 1 char... if you add another char its another dollar so $14 a month and so on

What exactly do you mean by that? Everything on the DVD disc it comes with completely installs to the drive, you dont need the CD in to play. Theres 3 components to it: Playonline, FFXI and Tetra Master. I forget how much space they all took up in beta.

Posted by: Wacheif

o thought like it installed some files onto HDD and then needed CD for stuff like some pc games do and stuff

Posted by: madman55

ok, ill check into it.The other day i bought a used socom game that came with the headset, and i like it, the game looked brandnew, had everything in its case too. only $30.

Posted by: Wacheif

too bad FF 11 doesnt support voice chat

Posted by: madman55

does it support keyboard?

Posted by: SKYHN

Yes, it supports any standard USB keyboard.

Posted by: colkrt1

the major flaw of FFXI is paying to play
this should have been i side game like Final Fantasy Online
instead of going online with the numbered series
and other then paying to play you probly need a cable modem
EVEN MORE FLAW ( but reduces lag )
