Time to rant and rave. I just bought OmniPage Pro 10 yesterday. I get home all excited because I can really use this program seeing that I do a lot of scanning documents etc. I pop the CD in the slot, and attempt to install it. Puzzled! What can be going on...goes back to read the docs, still tries to install the program, and hits a brick wall each time. I try all sorts of different things and come to the conclusion the CD is defective. I log onto their web site, and find this!
Well I filled out the forms and sent em in. Still too soon to get a response, but what I can't figure out is this. How could something this major get out into production. I am not a happy camper. Caere had better not come out with some nonsense that my serial numbers don't fall within their parameters either...if that happens, I am returning this back to where I bought it (even though they don't have a return policy) and make them see the error of their ways!

You, uh.... Um. You have a rack?

Yahoo! Got the program by courier today. Loaded it up and I must say, OCR software has improved since that last time I used one…5 years ago.

Well...call me stupid. I was so impressed with Scansofts service that I went out and bought Pagis Pro 3.0 Scanning Suite. I get home and install the program, and at least this time it installed well. But, when I go to use it, half the stuff doesn't work. I go back to their web site and find out that it is not compatible with WinME. They "strongly" suggest that I upgrade to Pagis Millennium. I just emailed them a nice response about buying useless software and not being able to use is...only time will tell if they will make a patch or something for this junk....from what I gather though, I may have to twist a few arms from the place I bought it if Scansoft doesn't do something quick.

Well they were quick to respond this time. Looks like I am out of luck unless I go back to Win98. Here is their kindly reply.
"Dear Mr. Chako (name edited to alias)
Thank you for contacting us.
ScanSoft does offer the upgrade to Pagis Pro Millennium for $ 49.99. If you purchased Pagis 3.0 from us or our web site within the last 60 days we could take the 3.0 version back, and you could then purchase the full version of Pagis Pro Millennium for, $99.99. Unfortunately we do not have patches for this product.
Kind Regards
David

It seems that they don't like patching their software (guess there is no profit in that), and trying to sell you upgrades (even more profits in that). Boy am I ticked. The trouble is that I bought this at a store...now I just might go back and try and get my money back. Got to love this "can't return software" policy. Oh sure, I can exchange it for another one...fat chance that will do me any good....argh! You know, I don't think I had this much fun with any other software company to date. That tells ya something I guess.

Can you like maybe offer it for sale on Ebay or locally? Explain the specs of usage to any interested parties so they don't get the same probs you did and then get the one you need?
Maybe that won't work, but it's just a thought. I hate it when you get stuck with these time consuming glitches. It's like some small god is off to the side laffing his tail off...
GL Chako, and thanks for the info. When I update, I will keep that in mind.

Well after a few days of fiddling, I managed to get most of it working. I still can't use certain functions such as capturing a web page. The worst of it is the random crash...screen just freezes, no error msgs, nothing but a swift hit the reset button to get the puter back on track. I have searched hi and low on Scansoft’s web site and all they will divulge is the acknowledgment that there are problems...not what the specific problems are. Oh well...call me stubborn, but I am not going to spend a dime more for upgrading this puppy. I shall use what I can, and save often.
