YEH BASICALLY I HAVE A 600K CONNECTION AND I CANT DOWNLOAD ANYWHERE NEAR THAT !!!

Sorry Mat !! yes i`m on Broadband NTl !!!

yea, pretty much what redwench said, if ur on a shared line, all u kan do is "persuade" the others to use less, because a shared line is exactly that, a shared line

er, no. i thought she was talking about bandwidth theft, not limited bandwidth. she needs to contact her provider.

Have you tried a speed test, to see what kind of throughput you are actually averaging? Your provider should have an 'official' test site that they recognize as accurate, or you can try toast.net, dslreports.com, etc. You may need some registry tweaking. I don't usually see problems with Win98/ME unless the customer's service is in the 1500k range, but the generic patches at places like speedguide.net have helped me out. I've had PC's that were only hitting 800k bumped up to the 1400's with the patches.

If your on a 600k connection, your not gonna get downloads going at 600kb/s, no matter what. Your download speed should be around 60kb/s on that connection.

I'm not sure your meaning.
Are you saying hackers are tapping your bandwidth and using it, or that yo have a shared line and the other people are using it up, or do you just want more space in general?

This is true. If you are going by the speed shown in your download window (kilo BYTES/second), multiply that number by 8 to get the throughput equivalent in kilo BITS/second, which is what modems rate their speed in. And don't forget, that speed is limited by the slowest connection in the transaction. If the source you are downloading from is only connecting to the internet at 40kb/s, you are not going to see anything faster than 5k in the download window.

Divide your lines speed by 8 and you will get your MAX download speed. I have (had) a 2Mbit LINE with BT and I got the top speed because I live where the pipe starts, so when I'm downloading the people below me get 60% less than they should.
Hackers cant tap your bandwidth, and also - get a popup blocker, some sites suck ur bandwidth even after u STOP / Close the window... >_>
Seph~
