Ezekiel Saw the Wheel

Things to think about while the locksmith extracts my big toes from a pair of chinese handcuffs:

I was reading the TV guide on the john. (loo) I have been taking appropriate reading matter with me for a few years now. TV guide is one of my faves since the Networks became the Fartcentric wasteland. Like calls to like, at least I think it does. So I read while I wait. or some days Whistle while I work.

One of the first things you notice in impending moldy aging is that it takes proportionately longer to go to the bathroom. (yeah, it takes a while to get to the bathroom but I am talking about how long it takes after you get there) It might be the stool softeners or the many and sundried pills I'm taking that may cause blockage, outage, roughage, constipation, gas, bloating, or diarrhia. I use to look before I flushed, now I'm afraid to.

Anyways in one of the colorful inserts, (the ones that never fold right and you always run into again whenever you turn the page), there was this squatting Babe looking at me with the caption, "She was Probed by Aliens now she interviews them..."
It had to be the Sci Fi Channel but I didn't get the name of the show. The Ad had triggered a flashback ... about my backyard neighbor, Zeke.

Zeke, like many ,if not all, of the countless young men who went to Southeast Asia for their Country; to protect the rights of a failing French colonial dynasty, and to contain the emerging Commie menace, came home a different person than the one who went.

The confident semi-pro ballplayer who laughed when he was drafted by the Army!!! not the Cardinals, came home a quiet introspective man who smoked pot constantly, grew his hair long and would spend the majority of his time in his back yard scanning the sky for aliens.

He never played Ball again, and I am not sure to this day where he is. Sometimes you lose touch, usually because you want to, but sometimes just time and circumstance work against you and you look around the person you want to talk to is not there.

Zeke was convinced that the Mothership was coming. Ezekiel saw the Wheel he would say, it's right there in the Bible. All God's children got to shooby do bop. I asked him one day, "Zeke? You ever been abducted by Aliens?"

"Nope", he said. "But I keep hoping."

It's strange sometimes how something can bring something out you hadn't processed for a long long time. That Ad reminding me of Zeke. You know he had me Believing there for a long time. About the Mothership. Of course it was A time when we had to believe in something, most of the stuff we had believed like in Political Heroes and the Government of the People by the People were falling by the wayside. None of the shit they told us in school growing up was true.

I don't even pay attention anymore. I had my day. You get this theoretical window of about thirty years where you get your chance to take over the world and I am well past that. It's still fun to watch others go for it though, and that is something.

Disclaimer: there is no way that anyone can take over the world, ain't gonna happen. To many things that can't be controlled to control for it to have a shot. Though many of us, (me included at times--my paranoid selves) think someone is running things. Truth is, NO ONE is running things. Well, God is. Maybe. He created this mess but that doesn't mean he has to maintain it. But He goes way beyond the hypothetical "someone". Once I realized that, I became more laid back. Starting looking at the sky in my backyard for aliens. Have I ever been abducted by aliens?

"Nope. But I keep hoping."
