Eh, seems 'ol Jacky G is writing in white heat, as we see his trusty little word processor spit yet another article, this time one he considers a SPECIAL!
Why does that always make me hungry? Errr... anyway...
His latest look at the state of gaming tells us what he thinks has happened to 2D gaming, and why the increased attention to 3D gaming developing should not mean the death of 2D gaming itself. Here's an excerpt:
As someone who grew up with the early systems, I've never really understood this huge drive for everything to be 3D. A large percentage of my favorite games are 2D. Not only that, but there are entire genres of games that only exist properly in 2D, yet are being phased out. Or are already dead. Platformers just aren't the same in 3D. One of the cornerstones of adventure games was the art. Sure, there are still some of both, but they are few and far between, and they don't live up to the classics.
Nostalgic guy, aint' he? Nevertheless, he brings up good points as usual, and is really worth a read.
Check it out in his State of the Game Industry column for more.
