Won't Detect New/Old Slave HD! Help!

Ok, heres the deal. I've read similar things about this in multiple web searches, and still cant find any solutions to my problem. The story is, I have 2 computers one died (lets call Puter #1), so I took out the 40gb HD from that machine and put it into my other computer (lets call Puter #2) as a secondary slave HD (2nd computer previously had only 1 hd, 4gb). This worked flawlessly until now. Having decided to ressurect Puter #1, and enjoying the newfound space I have on Puter #2, I decided to buy another HD (120gb). I tried simply swapping HDs out (ie 40gb replaced w/120gb) and found that although BIOS would see the new HD, Windows (win98) and DOS would not. I tried tweaking BIOS settings (recorded old BIOS settings in case I had to go back) and still couldn't get the stupid thing to work. Frustrated, I put back in the old HD (40gb), and guess what, same problem as with the new HD I just tried to install (will see in BIOS, not see in win98) even though I set all previous settings back to where they were previously (have checked 3 times). Before the barrage of answers I've already seen, here is what I've done:
Checked cables (power, ribbon)
Checked jumpers (set on slave, does not change when set as master)
Tried re-installing drivers
Tried changing cable position
HD is partitioned, using FAT32 (same as system)
Every concievable permutation of BIOS tried
Drive not dropped/sparked/held in magnetic field etc. (ie not corrupt, just not recognized)

Very vexing. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide. Ask me for more info if you need it.

Mike

good news: if the bios sees them, its not a hardware problem
bad news: if its not a hardware problem, its probably windows

update your windows and repartition/reformat the drive. if drive needs firmware upgrade, install that. check the drive manufacturer's site for similar problems. perhaps do some googling on your drive and see if this issue is common.

Ive had a similar problem, heres what solved it.

right click on my computer and select manage. in the window that pops up, select disk management on the left hand side under storage. To the lower right there should pop up all of the disks installed (see attachment). your missing HD should be there. right click on it and choose the option that is something similar to incorporate/include...
hope this works!
