hi!newbie here.just a question.right now i'm connected to the internet thru my roomie's computer which has the modem.he installed a firewall so that also means i'm safe from attacks even tho i didn't install any firewall.but recently i found a trojan.qhost in my computer!how is that possible?also i'm reformatting my com soon so what should i do or install to ensure this doesn't happen again??

probably a webpage you visited, or something you downloaded.

No way to completely prevent it short of disconnecting your computer from the internet. A way to help it is to update your virus definitions and run virus scan daily.

firewalls dont keep out viruses and trojans, except accidentally. firewalls keep unauthorized data transfers from occuring, they do nothing for transfers you permit.

firewalls could stop hidden automatic downloads in pages. Firewalls don't help remove them, it helps in catching them (sometimes, borderline rarely )

i keep getting error msges now when i play or open up some files.my antivirus has already deleted the trojan so why is this happening?i also ran a trojan.qhost removal exe and it can't find the file since i already deleted it i guess so why is the error messages becoming more frequent?also if i reformat is there any chance that the virus will still be there?

Trojan.Qhosts cannot spread by itself. For a computer to become infected, you would have to open an HTML page that contains code, which allows it to open a viral HTML file on the target computer, so that the script can create and run the malicious executable.

Perhaps you keep going back to the same website that originally infected you.

If you have Windows XP or ME, you need to diable the System Restore function BEFORE you run your virus scan and removal tool.

Turn Off/On Windows System Restore

Hope this helps.

I know of one website that is very intrusive and resets your homepage to a seach site, and has also been known to spread the mymusic.trojan, it's Moderator's Note: removed clickable link lop.com. Annoying as heck, and you never know where it's going to pop up from, so I started using a pop up blocker that was included in a browser (free). CrazyBrowser or SlimBrowser either one have pop up blockers.

Moderator's Note: It is NOT recommended for anyone to go the above-mentioned website. That website will automatically download and install spyware on your computer and is difficult to remove.

lop.com is a spyware site, not a trojan auto-downloader. Lop software is terribly annoying and intrusive as well, though, and it won't be detected or cleaned by anti-virus software.

Spyware/adware removal programs such as PestPatrol, Adaware, and SpyBot Search & Destroy will get rid of Lop software. If you want to remove it manually, it's a difficult process, but it's possible. PestPatrol has a good manual removal instruction process for Lop spyware under the "Detection and Removal" header on it's Lop Spyware Information page.

PuterFriendLy, Do you think it was a BRIGHT and FRIENDLY idea to post a spamware link?

Posted by: shinfua

any pop up blockers that i can download on it's own?

Posted by: PuterFriendLy

Thought that they could automatically block the link that way. Didn't think about them not being able to. Sorry
