After booting from the Cd-Rom to create and populate a partition with WinXP, the machine refuses to then look at the populated partition and continue the install!
I have a SYNTAX SV266A mobo witha 1900 XP, 128 meg Crucial RAM(checked), GeForce 3 Ti, Soundblaster 5.1, IBM Deskstar 80GB.
So far I have Swapped HD and CD around numerous times ending with them both as master on Pri and Sec Channel Repsectively.
I have Flashed the BIOS to latest version. Fidled with the BIOS boot up order, tried 2K instead of XP.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

first clear the cmos and after that go into the bios setup and load the fail safe settings
after that make sure that u change the boot order so u can boot from the cd
use a windows 98 cdrom to boot the computer to the shell
use fdisk to format the boot sector on whatever drive u wanna install windows x shit, i mean xp. then use fdisk to delete all the partitions on the chosen drive. do not create any new partitions. just delete the boot record and the partitions
now make sure that the windows cd's u r using are good copies or the originals
do a clean install of windows (xp or 2k) let windows use the whole disk. when u have windows up and choking, hum, i mean running get yourself a copy of partition magic 8 and then u can partition your disks from windows with a very easy to use interface. u can even resize the windows partition (and u will have to if u want make room for an extended partition)
oh and that memory u have from crucial... replace it with kingston's value ram...LOL. of course i m just kiiiiiiiiiding
good luck
oh and if u r using broadband or dsl and u have a modem card or even worse a winmodem, remove it . your computer will love u for that

You probably need to mark the partition as active with fdisk if you can boot from a floppy.

it dosen't matter 'cause windowz will take care of that for him
if he is using a windows setup disk instead he don't have to drop to the c prompt. just got to the D drive if u have only one hard disk or to the E drive for two disks etc. but the floppy disk will tell you what drive letter to jump to.
but i think that the windows setup floppy disk will call the setup.exe on the cd rom with no alien, mean human, intervention. but would be better to boot from the cdrom.
