bloody heat

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: redwench

here i am, sitting naked in front of a fan for the second day in a row. its too hot to do anything that requires motion. so i shall pester all of you.
i hate heat. absolutely detest it. 71 and cloudy is good. anything over that is just overkill. i think hot weather should be banned. and every business and public building should be airconditioned to 72.
im looking forward to snow now. nice and cool. mmmmmm.

there, does that qualify as a rant, or what?

Posted by: Canis Lupus

Yep, pretty hot ... this is California, the sunny state, and it's sunny alright...

Might be a good thing to fill up your fridge with some ice cream... mmmm ... ice cream...

Posted by: Gerbilo

it was like walking in soup earlier here in Chi-town

Well, wish I could say we had nice weather this year, but it is either very cold and humid, very hot and humid, or just plain very humid. Went golfing today, should have seen us sorry guys dragging our golf bags on the fairway. Trying to swing at a ball when the sweat just pours off of you is an interesting activity, especially when your buzzed by 15 sweat loving flies, 3 horseflies (you got to watch these guys...the other flies act as cover for them), and a packet of mosquitoes. You know when it is hot when you see the guy next to you salivating at the water hazards…mumbling that the water sure looks inviting, over and over. Yep, it was hot and humid today!

well, here in Hawaii, the weather is perfect. Low 80s every day, nice amount of sunshine- not too much, but just right. The best thing is the beach. You go to the beach during the day and the water is perfect. nothing better than jumping into some nice 70degree water...ahhh perfect

Posted by: MK

Ice cream is fattening Drink water! woohoo, water does a body good. Nothing, NOTHING is better for you then water, except maybe for some oxygen. Anyway, I love heat. Go outside, play some basketball, get a tan, and whatnot instead of sitting inside all day. Take the fan outside and get some sun on ya

Posted by: Kdr Kane

It's a comfortable 80 degrees in my house. Don't you have air conditioning? I'd be dead without it. In fact, several people in town die each year from the heat.

Posted by: AK47

yeah- the same crap happens in Chicago- people die from heat. No they dont- they die from ignorance. They (mostly old people) stay inside their houses all day, with the windows closed and no AC and no fans. If these morons would just open a window and turn on a fan, they wouldnt be croaking. hell, its probably a good thing they die- keeps the population in check. A nice balance of old people diying and young people over-populating the earth is what makes the world go.

Posted by: Gerbilo

lol, AK, last time i tried to say that theory in Bio class i got yelled at big time lol.

Posted by: redwench

actually, in very hot weather, closing the windows is a good idea, esp in a poluted city. but you need at least a fan.

and i have no sympathy for people who die in this heat. there are public buildings that are air conditioned to go to. if its predicted to get near 100, i head for the mall, and stay there until evening.

but, yes, old people must die or young people must stop breeding. or, better yet with our overpopulation, both.

Posted by: Chako

Most people who perish in heat waves are those who cannot go out to the malls or places of air conditioned respite. They tend to be the very elderly or the very sick. These are mostly bed ridden people. So tell me how is it ignorant to not be able to get out of bed and open a window, or turn on a fan, or seek cooling by other means?

Posted by: Kdr Kane

This forum name should be changed to the Lack of Compassion Forum.

Posted by: redwench

must be strange laws up in canada. down here, bed ridden personages have care givers. and what do you mean cant get to a mall? if you can walk/wheel yourself to a bus stop or to your car, you can get to a mall. if you cant walk/wheel anywhere, call an ambulance, you need professional care.

just because youre elderly doesnt mean youre handicapped.

i repeat, what kind of strange place is canada that you have bed-ridden people left alone for days on end?

Posted by: Chako

Lol. Medicare isn't that bad. However, from what I have read in papers, it would appear that most that die from hot temperatures are people who were bed ridden and at home in so called home care programs or taken care of by family etc. I do not know the exact circumstances for each case but that is what I gather. Canada is about the same as the US, only thing we got is free health care, which you don't. Who said all elderly are handicapped? I sure didn't. As for strange laws...ROFLMAO. It is Canada.

So Red. you telling me that people who die from the heat are stupid?

Posted by: Freak

Maybe that old geezer is flat broke, family is just like him, all ancient and most dead. Lives in a hut with a gray color TV, and the house was last painted 200 years ago? Oh yeah, by the way, no Phone. Somewhere in the backyard there is a Model T Ford.

In a big city like Chicago, I bet only about 0.00002% of the population die from heat, mainly from the category I mentioned above?

Posted by: redwench

yep, chako pretty much

or thier care givers are morons. one or the other. how hard is it to fill a tub with water? any care giver worth $1.97 would take gramps to the library, or even hospital if necessary ( open 24/7 and air conditioned ) as soon as the temp got uncomfortable.

but anyway, if old people didnt die, wed be in a hell of a mess. think of the tax rate. gotta die of something.

Posted by: redwench

dont quote me on this freaky, but i believe most people who die of heat stroke live in tenaments. no ac, and hotter outside than in.

if it gets so hot that im not comfy even with a fan, i take a cold bath. sounds wierd, but cools you down for quite some time.

Posted by: AK47

De Freak- you bet wrong. Alot of people die from the heat- during a heat wave- that is all you hear about on the news. Also- I dont understand your generalization. Lives in a hut with no phone and a model T in the back yard? Alot of the people who die in chicago are just old people who live in a poor section of town- they have a phone though.

Chako- I believe that it is ignorance that kills these old people- not the heaat. Im sure that most of these old folks have a TV or a radio. On the news during a heat wave- they always give instructions on how to survive in the extreme heat. The biggest one is drinking water. Alot of these old people die from a combination of heat exhaustion and dehydration. If they just drank some water, they would be in much better condition. And wench is right- if they are confined to thier bed, they most likely have some one who checks up on them (often a neighbor)

At the risk of going a little off topic...I found this list of Bizarre laws (thanks Red for the idea)

Weird US laws

and this one

More weird US and Canadian laws.

It is amazing what can remain in the law books after all this time.

Posted by: Gerbilo

crazy f*cking laws.

AK, yeah, some old ppl can be stubborn, and only when it gets really hot do heat related deaths in Chi get publicity. lotsa poor people though, like all them westsiders and all, can't afford water to fill a tub!

Posted by: laborat

it was so hot here yesterday someone was complaining that it melted the centers of her Oreo Cookies. made the local paper. guess everyone is running out of terrible things that excessive heat can do to the poor, disabled and elderly. but it starts messing with our Oreos, that's NEWS.

sorry but healthcare in canada is not free lol not be a long shot. u pay for it through outrageous taxation. so actually the money that u would normally spend on a decent provider system the govt takes that choice away from u canadians because according to the dictates of socialism ur not capable of taking care of urselves.

Posted by: Chako

Nothing in life is free..however, if you got dire medical problems and your in a hole, at least you can get it fixed (I hear American insurance premiums are high due to malpractice etc...isn't the states the sue me Capital of the world? j/k). Actually, the little we pay in taxes is a very small price compared to the large sums of medical expenses that can accrue quickly (you have to remember that our Population is very small...the taxes we pay don't even begin to cover the Health Care...why do you think the system is having problems...but it is way above what many countries have) When you got a problem up here, the ambulance crew will always take you, not like in the States, where I know many refuse medical help if they can’t afford it. As for not being capable of taking care of ourselves? I don't think so. Nothing stopping Canadians going south for medical care if they want it...

Posted by: AK47

yeah, thats why we have border patroll

Posted by: JANNA

no what i meant by not taking care of urselves was meant in reference to the socialist liberal mindset. socialists think that the govt any govt is more capable of taking care of the individual than the individual is. therefore they push to have the govt control all aspects of life.

in the US tho no one is denied medical care even if they cannot pay. the things people are crying about not being provided for are non emergency non life threatening procedures. such as waaah my boobs arent big enough the govt should pay to make em larger type of thing. to the vast majority of liberals here in the US breast enlargements facials tummy tucks all should be covered by govt payed healthcare. but people laying ina gutter and ambulances refusing to cart em to a hospital because they havent money or broken bones going untreated because they cant pay is pure myth.

Posted by: Chako

Funny....why is it we see on the news all the time people in the States who cant afford Health Insurance going down in a spiral of debt. I have some relatives living in the States, and they tell me that health care in the States is super expensive. It is a difference between the haves and the have nots.

As for breast implants ect...they aren't covered here either, nor are any non essential cosmetic surgeries, etc.

I don't live in the States, I am just telling what I hear.

As for the Socialist Liberal mindset....there is a push by several Provincial governments to privatize health care because we don't have the population tax base to support it. Many Canadians out there are fighting for them to leave it alone because they don't want American style health care...must be a reason for that I would think.

Oh and by the way...this is not a Can/US is greater then the other nation war I hope...for in my opinion both nations are great.

Posted by: redwench

janna, you are right, and you are wrong

health care in serious and life-threatening instances is provided by hospitals/ ambulances without concern as to payment.

but health care providers can and do turn away people with real medical problems based on ability to pay. private hospitals only have to provide life saving treatment. they can refuse to treat other illness/injury. since many hospitals are still run by the govt or charities, its not usually problematic.

tho, as hospitals are bought by corporations, this could change. im fortunate to live near a state medical college hospital, so i can get treated regardless of my financial circumstances. but not everyone is so fortunate.

there are benefits and drawbacks to both systems, of course. thats why both of them exist

Posted by: Gerbilo

lets all go live in sweden!!

they get all sorts of free stuff!!! taxes are like 40% though

oh yeah, AK, it's f*cking perfect out today, like 75 and sunny.....

Posted by: AK47

same here gerb
