I was setting up my friend's pc for his wireless card yesterday, It didn't work because the wireless zero configuration service is missing from the services window. Anybody has seen this before? Please help us out.

Try doing the following:

1.) Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Performance and Maintenance -> Administrative Tools -> Services.
2.) Scroll down to Wireless Zero Configuration, and double-click Wireless Zero Configuration.
3.) On the General tab, after Startup type, change the startup type to Automatic.
4.) Start the service by clicking Start.

Let us know if this works, and good luck!

can you type this in?

C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs

if that doesn't work, I managed to get that service available by installing another wireless card.

Is he using a pirated copy of XP? Some of the pirated copies floating around are missing a dll for wireless config.

my copy is fully legal, some software removes the entry in services, the DLL is not missing, the program is svchost, the trick is to get it back into services, and the command line services should use is the one
i mentioned above

I just solved my WEP and missing wireless tab at the same time today. Hope this will help you. Basically you need to install the Wireless Zero Configuration portion of Windows XP. Please direct your browser to http://www.practicallynetworked.com/qa/qa20040311.shtml

Good luck. Please let me know if this is helpful.

I've tried everything to get this working; it says it's running and I still cannot get the thing to work.

Any ideas out there?
