SB PCI and Mobo Sound conflict
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I'm getting a conflict between my sound card and the supposedly disabled sound built-in on the Mobo.
The setup is:
Soyo 7VCA Mobo (Via chipset)
Soundblaster PCI 512
P3 800Mhz CPU
256 MB ram
Win98 (first edition)
The problem is specifically with DOS sound. I have no problems in Windows itself. But when I try to run an older DOS based game, or even some of the DOS related utilities that Creative supplied with the card, the computer just reboots.
If I yank the SB completely, the reboots go away. Any thing less than that doesn't seem to help. If I could just turn sound off in the DOS games, it would be nice. Unfortunantly, a few of them still attempt to do something that diddles with sound even when they are set with no sound, thus causing the reboot.
I've tried disabling the SB's DOS emulation in the DM. I've tried getting it to shift away from IRQ5. (Yeah, right. SB16s loved 5 and the emulator still does). I do have the latest Via 4-in-1 drivers, though I doubt that has much to do with it. I even tried shifting the SB between PCI slots a time or two, even though this isn't really a PCI issue.
If there are any suggestions on what else I might be able to try, I'd like to hear them.
