Diablo(R) in a Sue Dress

Things to consider while I go check the centers of my Oreos:

How do you pronounce Strength? For some reason it is one of those words that everyone has a fave phonetic version of, and who, where, and economic clout has a lot to do with your pronunciation. The main pronos stack up like this:

Stringth, Strenth, Streenkth, Strankth

(before you compare your version of strength by saying it aloud, stop and consider, that if you do and you fall into a catagory that you don't agree with, you can always start pronouncing it like the rich, handsome, and wealthy do.)

Bonus points for knowing which one is the PROPER way to pronounce strength.

My fave gaming company, Blizzard, knows how to pronounce strength. In fact they could probably spell clout with a K and get away with it. I was reading my game spy morning update this AM and caught this headline: Blizzard 1 New Line Cinema 0. Seems that Blizzard went to court to stop the release of an upcoming movie by New Line Cinema called Diablo. The Film company according to one insider is now considering "Womb Raider" as its title at release.

Blizzard won, which is nothing new, but what was interesting was that they are claiming to have a register mark on Diablo. I wasn't aware that "Devil" was copywritable or I would have been on that one years ago. What is known is that the legal department at Blizzard has NO sense of humor. I was threatened myself several times, especially when I pointed out that Wirt's Leg, undithered, looked a lot like Peg Leg Pete's. No word yet on what the Devil thinks about all of this, but it would sure explain the problems that Bnet has been having lately.

All of this has made me thing that We are already in HELL in a handbasket when large corporations, themselves small fry within even larger world corporations, can stake out a claim on lexicon, jargon, and slang, simply because they can. Our Language, (any) is and unto itself an adaptive use of several historical attempts at communication. The fact we even have History shows that somehow those attempts at times were successful. I would hate to think in some future time, we would have to get a release from some obscure company to be able to use a word they claimed as theirs, for something important like communication.

But wait!!! They already have that. The online Name grabbers who register likely names and then sell them back to the highest bidder. In fact, Laborat, is one of those names somebody in south florida claims for themselves. It is for sale however and whenever I get the big bucks to buy it, I will try. I think however that this type of online word mugging is deplorable. Some things like Air, Water, and Sunshine should be free for all to enjoy. I had hoped language was one of them, but hey, soon you will have dictionarys that begin with legal disclaimers that the words contained within may in fact be a registered trade mark or copywrite. Some how the thought of , "Go to the Devil (registered mark)!!! doesn't have the same feeling as the old way.

It's not all Blizzard's fault. They are just jumping on a Bandwagon in the online Turf wars that was started back in the days of
SPAM(R) and SCRABBLE(R). I guess we should applaud them for successfully defending their trademark on the Devil (Diablo(R)). No word on what the Christian Right thinks about all this, or if they even care. In fact I have a little tip for them, they might want to consider, The War College has a course called WarCraft.
Could keep their attorneys working for years suing the
Government. If they won and I am sure they would, then the world could finally achieve world peace since no country would want to go to WAR(R) if it meant they would have to pay royalties to Blizzard.

Free, whats free...

I pay about 50.00 a month for the water that I use in my house.

Everyone pays for "clean" air the government has passed so may regulations and businesses that conform to them pass on the cost to the consumers who buy their products.

Sunshine is "free" but Causes skin Cancer

The big corporations are about to copyright the Human Genome. ~~~

They have already copyrighted the cures of specific diseases, heck they even copyrighted the some of the tests that could be used to see if you have a disease.
