Just got FFX2

If this doesn't belong in console gaming, please move.

First off I'm going to start with an overall summary of what I've discovered so far, without any spoilers, and give a general idea of the game. It's 2 years after Sin, Yuna, Rikku, and the new girl Paine become Sphere Hunters. They think they've seen Tidus in a sphere, but they're not sure. The game is quite interesting. The girls act like they're something out of Charlie's Angels, but it's not a cheesy ripoff, it just fits right with the mood of the game. I've played for awhile, and other than Rikku and Yuna, I've found only 1 familiar character from Final Fantasy X so far, who will remain anonymous here. For those that I've seen from FFX, all of the original voice actors have returned, which to me is good. Square has gone back to equipping accessories like in FF7, which now allow you to cast spells, protect you from status effects, or increase stats. There is job switching, which is neat, as all of the girls can become the same thing, so you can have 3 fighters, 2 fighters and a thief, 1 theif, a fighter, and a gunner, etc.

The battle system I'm undecided on. While it's good because it's not a typical FF battle system, it's very fast paced, and a lot of times (at least early in the game) you don't get the chance to watch what's going on because the enemy does not wait for your command, even if you set the Active ATB to wait mode. The only other complaint I have at this point is in FFX whenever you clicked on a character that talks, they talked all of the time. Now, unless that character has something important to say, it only comes up in text. There is also witty humor that will make you smile, chuckle, or if you're an easy target, laugh. This game seems to be more designed for girls, but I think anyone can enjoy it, especially a hardcore fan of the FF saga.

This is definitely somewhat like FFTactics, as in the many jobs you can obtain, and you can switch jobs anytime outside of combat, but only what's on your dress sphere. In combat, you have to switch jobs on at a time, and you have to go in order, thereby wasting turns until you get your job you want. The gunner job (Yuna's default) is especially cool. More characters can attack one monster at the same exact moment, which is neat, instead of having to wait for person to go, then the next. Oh yes, and if you out there are a video game pervert, you should like the girls in all of their costumes. Also, some bad status effects that you receive in combat, will follow out of combat until they are treated properly. I won't say which ones here.

Here are my pros and cons:

Pros:

Up to this point, original character voices return
Rikku is still the upbeat, perky girl, Yuna is still the same
Paine (The new character) is mysterious and deep
Witty humor, and a few cute Charlie's Angels things
A better airship

Cons:

I'm not liking the battle system all that much right now. I don't like having to sift through commands trying to find the right one while the enemy is beating my ass.

I Miss the characters talking all of the time.

Well, that's about all I have to say on the game for now. So far I really am enjoying it. When I have more to add, I will add it here. Feel free to post any comments, and I'd like to also know if anyone else went and got it.

it is pretty good. I've found a lot more characters from FFX. It's getting better. The first mission is linear, to help you learn the game. After that, it's pretty much non-linear. You expand the story the way you want to, but only if you go for the missions. You can go anywhere anytime after the first. The maps are 90% the same as FFX, not to mention the backgrounds, so it really is like a sequel. Any FF fan will love it, as I have learned to. The combat system isn't actually that bad once you get used to it.

I dunno if Im gonna get it. If I liked FFX, will I like this one? Money is tight right now and Ive been mostly renting lately.

I also wanted to play it with those gun controllers, but it looks like they didnt come out here.

I'd definitely tell you to rent this one. That way, if you like it, you can buy it. I find it more and more enjoyable the more I play it. As the story unfolds, you actually get to choose sides between two factions. How much it effects the story, I'm not sure yet. I'm only about 14-15% done w/the game. I'm sad that they don't have Blitzball as a side game (as far as I know) because I was really good at that, not to mention addicted to it. Battles take a lot less time, which I really like, and although they still pop up frequently, nowhere near as annoying as FF7 and FFX. It's not extremely time consuming to master the job class skills either, like in FFT. It's definitely a sequel to FFX. A lot of the maps are the same and look alot alike. I like how they kept Rikku as a ditz and Yuna's gotten a little bolder. I guess it all depends on how much you enjoyed FFX. I really liked FFX, so that might be why I enjoy this one so much.

Right now, my current rating on this game is 8.5 of 10. The battle system is still a bit iffy to me, and sometimes boss battles get on my nerves, but other than that I'm good.

I thought I would include a list of characters that have appeard from FFX in FFX2. These are the ones I've found so far. If you don't wanna know. Don't peek at the tags!

SPOILER: (highlight to read)
Yuna, Rikku, Brother, Wakka, Lulu, Letty, Jassu, Datto, Botta, Keepa, Shaami, Issaru, Pacce, Cid, Dona, Barthello, Larbeight, Tatts, Vuroja, Mep, Ropp, Bayra, Miyu, Deim, and Zalitz. Note, as far as the blitzers outside the Aurochs and Vuroja, I'm not sure if the rest of the people are supposed to represent the Blitzers, but since their characters appear, I'm guessing at least one of them are them.
