Wireless Network

OK, I have a Microsoft MN500 802.11b Wireless access point. In my laptop (the only wireless device I have), I have a Dell True Mobil 1300 Wireless network card (802.11b/g). It already has the latest drivers from Dell.
If it helps, the laptop is a Dell Inspiron 5100 with a P4 2.8Ghz, 512MB RAM, 40GB HDD.
Now, the problem that I'm having is that my access point randomly kicks me off my network. Just a few minutes ago, it kicked me off and wouldn't let me back on. I kept opening the wireless window (View Available Wireless Networks) and kept clicking on the box to connect even though it's not secure, then clicking OK. I can do that procedure as many times as I like and it will never connect.
Now it's started to get even weirder. As I am typing this, M$ Windows XP shows that I'm not connected to the internet at all, yet I'm online. I know that it's not just cached stuff that I'm looking at because I'm listening to Internet Radio (Radio@Netscape).
Also, if anyone suggests to add encyption to the network, don't. I already tried that and it only made stuff worse. I couldn't get to my network at all - even through a wired connection. I had to perform a hard reset on my access point.
I am including a pic of the window that keeps coming up if it helps. Pardon the crappy quality, but it doesn't matter anyway.
Thanks in advance,
-Keith

Damn - didn't realize I posted this here. Sorry. This should be in the correct forum.
Oh well. Any help is still appreciated.

What o/s are you using?
If you're using XP are you using the internal xp wireless config or are you using the dell software?
I've always disregarded the manufacturers software if I could get the XP config to work.

I'm using XP.
I was using the internal wireless config, but I just found the dell equivalent. I didn't have it running but I do now. It seems more stable. I'm not on wireless right now, but earlier I was on for about 7hrs without disconnecting at all.
I think that by using the Dell software it may be able to maintain the connection better.
Also, it's not disconnecting because of signal range because I'm about 15feet from the AP.

I don't know about that, the internal XP wireless software is a no-brainer and has worked well with all of my wireless installs.
15 feet away and it was dropping signal, that sucks. Do you have any cordless or cell phones around that might interfere?
Did you try resetting the AP and/or chaning the channel that the AP broadcasts on?

I have a cell phone that was nearby, but I made sure that no-one in my house buys anything in the 2.4Ghz range so that there's no interference.
I haven't changed the channel yet, but i did try resetting (even a hard reset)

Try changing channels, I usually set it to channel 1

I had the same problem with a belkin wireless router. i first tried encryption and that pharced up very quickly, for some reason my laptop would accept 64 bit encryption but not 128. anyhow, i got rid of encryption and after a day or two everything kind of straightened itself out with a few problems here and there, and now it works like a dream. The only problem is that I cant see any computers in the same workgroup, or any other way for that matter, with computer that are wirelessly connected to the network.

Don't just worry about cordless phones, microwaves can also cause interference on 802.11b! *FOOD FOR THOUGHT* I wonder if 5.8GHz phones will mess the 802.11a, it shouldn't, 'cause most of 802.11a in between 200MHz of 5GHz.
