GeForce3 Ti500 crashing problem (winxp)
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Alright, basically I did have a Radeon 7000 equivalent originally installed on my Gateway computer, and it started really bugging out on me (http://kdx-productions.com/screen2.jpg)...so after a chat with tech support and trying a number of solutions including reformatting my HD and reinstalling winXP and the latest gateway AND ati drivers, nothing worked so I figured maybe my card was simply fried.
Then I get my friend's geforce3 ti500 card, and it seems to be working peachy keen until I install the drivers and then it will only stay in windows for about 1-5 minutes before randomly crashing. I have tried all the latest winxp drivers. Any suggestions?? All help is appreciated!!
Thanks,
KDX

Hmmm,
Everything was peachy until you installed drivers.
UNINSTALL ALL YOUR DISPLAY DRIVERS AND REINSTALL ONLY THE NEW DISPLAY ADAPTER DRIVERS.

nice.
ok ima try that one time for the sake of naiveity...but I have tried that at least 5 times prior.

I'm sure you tried this but do it anyway....
1.) Check add remove programs and remove anything that relates to any display software.
I'm sure you tried this but do it anyway....
2.) Check the DEVICE MANAGER and remove all drivers that relate to ALL display adapters.
3.) Re-install the geforce drivers
If the above doesn't work edit the registry.
I'll give you instrcts on this if you need 'em
Good Luck

ok, tired all of the above and turned off automatic restart to see what exactly the error is and I get IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and some other blablabla.
So where to now?? Heh btw thanks for the help.

No Problem,
I hope to get you up and running.
Did you check the registry?
Posted by: KDX
no how do I do that exactly? And does it help to tell you that this is on a 100% fresh installation of winxp home?? And I have a keystone amd motherboard? hehehe ugh I can't believe all this..

START-RUN (type) REGEDIT (select) HKEY MACHINE (select) SOFTWARE
(Delete folders/files to old and new display adapters) Reboot and install new drivers. Make sure you only have one disply adapter hooked up. I forgot to mention this before.

ok, I'll give that a shot...and yes, it's the only video card I got hooked up.

Last note for today,
Don't get frustrated. If that doesn't work, it's probably an IRQ conflict.
I can walk you through that one or ask Bullfrog264 or Redwench. they seem pretty cool. I'll be back on Fri. morn. if you still need the IRQ help.

k none of this is working...what are the chances that it is my power supply? It shouldn't be, because it's a realtively new one...but then again with the new video card comes new wattage. =P
edit: nm dumb idea cause then I'd be getting random reboots instead of random blue screens.

OK KDX,
Back to the begining,
You have a Geforce pci card.
It works for a short time then bugs out.
Your getting an IRQ error message.
Go to: DEVICE MANAGER AGAIN AND SEE IF THERE ARE ANY MARKS.
Go to: DISPLAY ADAPTER PROPERTIES IN DEVICE MANAGER AND NOTE WHAT THE IRQ (interupt request number is) UNCHECK USE AUTO SETTINGS AND SEE IF YOU CAN CHANGE IT.
a GOOD GUESS IS THAT if you have a MODEM, it's on 5 and your display is on 11.
have you tried your card in another pci slot.
If you need to find out what is shared on IRQ, Go to: SYSTEM TOOLS-SYSTEM INFORMATION-HARDWARE RESOURCES & look at CONFLICT AND SHARING and IRQ's
Which SOUNDCARD DO YOU HAVE?
Posted by: KDX
it's agp 4x.
heh would that still cause an IRQ conflict?
OR do you think that perhaps it may not even be the vid card and it might be my stupid tv tuner card by ATI??? If that's the case I'll gladly throw that piece of garbage out of my window RIGHT now. lol.
reason I say that is it is a PCI card and technically has something to do with video, even tho it's JUST a tv tuner. I think when I get home today I'm going to try removing it altogether and seeing what happens.

AGP!!!!!!!!!
Did you check bios to make sure 4x is enabled?
Posted by: KDX
yah sure did...
=P made sure the aperture was 64mb and all that jazz too, heh this is just one crappy situation huh??

oook, I am running out of ideas now, what I am trying as the LAST attempt is using a diff. HD to install windows on. It's the only thing I haven't considered yet, so why not. If this doesn't work, Ima go ahead and buy a new system and build it my damn self, screw gateway.
Thanks for all your help, and unless u got some last suggestions I am done messing with this thing. I'll let u know if this latest effort works or not, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed even tho I have my doubts.
edit: didn't work...lol damn computer. thanks for everything!
