Diamond Technology?
Update driver or re-install.

Nice one...
Where can i find an updated driver for it?
By the way, didnt manage to get my second HDD operating yet... tried every combination of jumpers and IDE ports, cables swaps...... even tried hitting it with a pool cue but it just wont dig it....
Im sure theyre out to get us.....!!
Its a bit like 2001 a space odd... thingy.

The pool cue never works. Next time try the louisville slugger.
A big rock works sometimes too.
Just type in s3 and search for the update. I cant find the link right now but found it 13 mo. ago when helping out a buddy.
For now, just uninstall and reinstall.

Im in your debt....
I may try waving a pair of me girlfriends knickers at it.... works for me every time!!

That is a good idea to download and install the latest drivers for the video card. You might also want to look into the powersave options. It seems like it might also be a problem with your computer going into a sleep mode. If my directions below are incorrect I apologize it has been a while since I have used Windows 98.
They can be accessed by right clicking on your desktop and selecting properties from the menu. Then clicking on the Screen Saver tab. I think it will show an advanced button or a button labeled power. There should be a menu listing something like turn off hard disks after so many minutes of inactivity. I would set that to never and see if that helps with your problem.
Good Luck,
Bullfrog
P.S.- I think I can help you with the hard drive as well but I figured we can fix one problem at a time.

Thx for jumping in bullfrog,
EXCELLENT RECOMMENDATION.
alternative path: Control panel-power management.
I overlook the obvious all the time, thats the main reason i'm here.
I hope Anton gets this.

I used to have windows 98, and i had problems with a game, the gaming company, after sending them a report fron dxdiag siad i needed to update my drivers for my graphics card, and even on there website, it says make sure before contacting us that you have the latest drivers installed. So i installed the latest graphics card drivers, that was the biggest mistake ever, for the next 3 months i went through hell, and i mean hell, these new drivers did not work with direct 9, and they are designed to support agp 8x as well, but these drivers conflicted with a number of programs and finally my operating system died, it completely damaged it, so i would not recommend updates, that is a last resort thing. It seems to me that they was in a rush to make the new drivers and you are better using your old ones, with new ones there have not been tested in the field, and that is why i had problems, by the these drivers where not Beta drivers. I also downloaded the Nvidia drivers from there site, but these caused other problems like curropted screens, but otherwise where a lot more stable that the other upto date drivers. The new upto date drivers had the following errors, and i could not play a lot of game through it, Access Violation, Page fault, illegal operation, and sometimes when it errored, and i restarted windows, not by pressing reset, it came up with windows registry error, restoring registory. but i went out and bought the same card card but with a different company, and that solved it. it was nothing to do with my memory config as the computer shop said, because i had been using the other card for 5 months then downloaded the new drivers. So the moral of this story don't go for something new just because they say it is better. Remember that new drivers means that they have been tested in there lab but not on all the different combinations of hardware. So when they release the new drivers, you are taking a risk by installing them, it may work and it may not work, or it my work in a sort of way but cause problems.
