How To Get Notification Icons to reappear

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Sometimes when I close a program, the computer responds slowly for a while, and the screen blanks out and everything reappears again, but when that happens, everything in the Notification Area disappears, for example, msn, winamp, bittorrent notification icons just disappear. But when I go to the Task Manager, underneath the Processes Tab, the programs are still running. I cannot maximize some icons through the Processes tab and they do not show up in the Applications Tab, these are mainly namely the Bittorrent ones. How do I get these programs to show up again? Is there anyway I can still access the program?

It sounds like Explorer (explorer.exe) shutdown. When that happens, most of the notification icons disappear. The apps are still running just fine, you just can't access them. To get them back, you can try starting the app again, that will usually bring the app back into visibility. If that doesn't work, end process the app and start it again.

Is it a specific program that causes Explorer to shutdown often? If so, you might want to check for an update.

Also, restarting will refresh everything and all your apps will display in the nofication area again.

Hope this helps,
Keith
