laptop problem

Here's the skinny: IBM Thinkpad from 1996, changed network settings to be seen on network, no cd-rom drive, will not log on, does not recognize logon name, don't know admin password. Any Suggestion?

NT? If I'm not mistake, which I may well be, there's a .ini or .dat or something along those lines that you can delete with impunity and it removes the admin password or sets it to a default or something. I don't know squat about NT, but I remember someone else having that problem, and that was the solution. Just boot from a floppy and whack it.

Sorry, but I can't recall what the name of the file was. I think it was something fairly obvious, like passwords.dat or something lame like that.

Hopefully, if I'm wrong, someone will correct me.
