Remove Office 2000 Pro manually
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Here where I work there was apparently a former IT employee that installed Office 2000 Pro on several machines and then later left the company. The install CD apparently was either hidden or stolen somewhere during this time.
Anyway, I need to uninstall Office 2000 Pro without using the original CD. How would I go about this, or can anyone point me to a document that shows how to do this?

ADD REMOVE PROGRAMS DOESN'T WORK?

On second thought, the tone of desperation in your post. You probably got pissed and deleted files and folders instead of getting rid of the registry items.
Assuming your not purchasing another copy of office 2000. I would let your employer know that new software is in order to insure all future operations of the office PC'S.
Purchase ONTRACK FIXIT or the like. I happen to like Ontrack.
It includes software to easily remove programs. It's simplicity to remove un-needed reg items is quite good.

Add/Remove programs will eventually prompt you for the CD that you orginally installed with. So far, the reason why it has become a mess on one of our machines is because we assumed that Office 2000 Premium (not Pro) was the only version installed on any of our machines. We have been modifying some installations to take our company in a new direction. We apparently screwed up one installation of Outlook 2000 by attempting to modify a Pro install with a Premium disc. Needless to say, we could fix this if we had the Pro disc, but as far as we know, the company has never owned one (which means we need Pro gone PRONTO).

Your networked , right.
copy the essential files from another pc into the appropriate folders on your pc then uninstall office.

The only essential file is data1.msi, and it is not installed along with the office components onto the hard drive.
By the way, ALL of the essential files for uninstallation are contained on the orginal CD since the uninstall program is part of the install program.

since you apparently have the install cd for the version you wish to use, use a removal program to get the old one out. manual deletion might be necessary, followed by a registry cleaner program.

RED!
Right, a registry cleaner.
Norton System Works has it and Ontrack Fixit has it.
Red, whats hangin' babe!

Eh, no need for all that mumbo jumbo, just get your hands on ANY Officee 2000 cd and browse for the .msi file that its asking for

Cleaning out the registry is a good thing.
The program I mentioned defrags the registry as well.
A normal defrag doesn't. In this case, I agree with you if he can get his hands on the install program. If he is networked and the other pc's have the files he needs, He will be further ahead to format. I have gotten away from formatting as my knowledge grew. But sometimes its a lot faster to just start over again and try not to f--k up.

Formatting is the easy way out, but you must conceed that you couldn't fix the problem before you took such drastic measures....
