XP SP1 -Start Menu hangs

When I click the start button or move over the programs button, etc it hangs. It takes about 5-10 seconds for the program list to be displayed for example. Also, when I click off the prgrams list it also takes about 10 seconds to disappear. Any suggestions? I have defragged, cleaned, ckecked for viruses, removed spyware /adware.

I think that your computer is stalling on the animation effects. To test this theory, right click on an empty patch of desktop, and click properties. Click on the appearence tab. Click on effects. Now uncheck the options for "use transition effect" and "show shadows under menues".
If that does not work try updating your graphics driver in case there are any issues witht the updated version of windows. This is not likly, but a possibility.

Try a different video card if you have one available to see if it fixes the problem.
