My car :D

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: The-AoD

Finally got time and remembered (while chatting with a friend) about posting a picture of my car. I guess I can say what it's got again :P

1998 Oldsmobile Cutlass GLS
Power everything (including 6 way power seats )
Leather interior
4 speed auto (best automatic I've been in for a long time)
3.1 V6
215watt factory audio (Pioneer speakers)
fog lights
keyless entry and trunk release
Car identification system by 3m (Anti-Theft)
and more I can't think of :P

Anyways here's the picture from a couple weeks ago, it's dirty from road conditions now, but the picture looks alot cleaner

Posted by: Gunslinger

That's a quality car. Those Oldsmobiles, though. They need a new alternator about every quarter mile.

What's the mileage?

Posted by: The-AoD

Right in the 75's now I drive alot

As for the altenator, it's doing alright, I want a nice strong one soon. I plan on adding a custom lighting kit for the interior, not just the stock lighting that I've already converted to totally green

The drivetrain and motor are like brand new. Never skips a beat. The suspension is really doing nice considering it's milage, it still rides like new. You can tell the car was well taken care of

I only have one major complaint. The cooper cobra tires are noisy on the road hehe

Posted by: Bobaroo

Looking nice!!!

How much horsepower/torque?

Posted by: SKYHN

I had my eye on a Toyota Celica for a long time. And now I must have a Mazda RX-8. And after I saw one with the black/red leather, Ive become even more obcessed with it.

Although I dont have $33,000 laying around

Posted by: 9:35

I fixed your car, but sadly I couldn't find more 'fly hunniez'

http://www.sojplz.com/images/plat.jpg

Posted by: compukeith

9:35, that's a great little addition to the car!!

Posted by: Gerbilo

Cool AoD...

my dad had a loaded 99 in silver. stupid ass POS heh

I really don't like those cars. I've known 3 ppl with the cutlass/malibu of that style and all 3 have had horrendous problems.
my moms 95 camry is so much more solid than the cutlass... hell, my 92 civic seems about as solid as the 99 cutlass was.
his new car, the 03 accord is 100x the car the cutlass is..... also can smoke its ass(+85hp +32lbft) with less displacement!(-0.1Lyay technology lol) i guess you get what you pay for though...

hope it's great for you though man! I did like the ride and the sound system had a helluva lotta kick.

btw, 155hp 180lbft yay 12v pushrod haha

Posted by: Blackknight

Needs pink racing stripes.

Posted by: The-AoD

haha, Anyways nice addition to the car 9:35. Tho.. I don't think that would be appreciated here in redneck country, specially that church. All the people there still believe in slavery. They should all be shot either way, old decrepit idiots. But I do like it, only one thing, should have added some hydraulics :P.

And as the manual says, 3.1v6 with the S in the vin is either a 170 or 175 horsepower model, but it has the intake relay installed, which is basically a different intake sensor. Basically it allows a little more air than the stock one. The guy at autozon made sure of this, since I was a little sceptical at first. The sensor can add anywhere from 10-25 horsepower depending on the engine model. But he did the vin code crap and checked everything and said the car is in perfect health. I do have one small problem, I believe a hose is cracked on the underside of my anti-freeze tub. Nothing to major, only uses about a half quart every 3000 miles, so it's not bad at all

Ohh and the dude at autozone showed me some really kickass interior lighting kits that they can order for the 98`-99` Malibu/Cutlass. This one I liked was purely based on temperature. The warmer it is the more red and the colder it is the more blue . Only thing is, I don't have 700 dollars laying around for the kit, nor do I have the time/will to install something that major . I think I'll stick to the smaller ideas, like under seat lighting and stuff

Ohh and gerb :P the 155hp 3.1 is in the 98-99-00 models of the base Malibu with only a v6, not the LS or S. :P I'm just a small step below the Alero. Which I could have got one of those, but it just didn't fit me :P
And as for your civic... Haha, 6'1 220lbs.. I don't fit in many of the civics, specially the older ones :P Hell the toyota tercel I looked at, was nice, 96` model. Would have snatched it if I could have actually fit in it comfortably. That's probably the most reason behind me getting the cutlass, I can move the seat ALL the way back, and actually have to move it up some to be comfortable

Posted by: Gerbilo

lol, allllright... i thougth it was more than 155, but, i don't see how intake plumbing can change that much. Even a full blown CAI will only add about 10hp or so, unless the OE is horrendous!

yeah, when my dad got his old cutlass, he was looking at the alero, but it was too small. And, I fit into my civic.. 6' 200lbs... I only ever feel cramped if i got a big coat on.

On the cutlass... watch for bad injectors, and keep an eye on your pulleys.

if you ever need any ideas or suggestions, i always have them :-D

Posted by: The-AoD

:P The intake sensor is basically a restrictor in all respect. It's one of the main differences in alot of models. The one I have is an aftermarket part, so.... I don't know exactly who installed it or what brand it is, but it's very small. The guy said all it controls is the airflow allowance. And as he said, the more air available the better the fuel consumption. The factory one restricts air for thier "pollution control" ideas. As you should know, you disconnect much of the epa components on a newer car, you might as well kiss running the engine goodbye . But ohh well. Trust me, when I got my car, one of the first places I hit was the internet and then straight to autozone

Posted by: Gerbilo

lol, your intake temp sensor??

it's gonna make you run hella rich w/o adding any more air....
screw up your A/F ratio, atleast, if it's what i'm thinkin. makes it think you are drawing in colder, thus denser, air than you really are...

but i might be confused!

Yay for GM's

Pretty stout car.

I have a 3.8L powered W body car... (Grand Prix GTP)...

Fun cars, and pretty reliable (unless its mine, but then again its modded pretty good and has mid 13 sec time slips )

You have the pleasure of driving in a parking lot with virgin snow in that thing yet? We loves doing it in my precio.... my car

I'd post a pic but the duba dubs are too bling bling fo' shizzle.

This is the best idea I got from what the dude at autozone told me, basically I'm guessing it tells the computer to draw more air to stabilze a higher compressed firing. Exactly how? I couldn't tell you if it adds air, or adds fuel, but from what I got, I'd figure air. I have not a friggin clue, I didn't have it installed, nor did I install it. I asked him (He does live in Irondale, and he is a 'friend', to look at my new car and tell me about it. It wasn't one of the first things he noticed about it. He also told me that there were a couple different things from what it "should" be stock. One being the "oxygen sensor", which I myself could not tell the difference. He simply said, "This isn't a factory part, it's a replacement." He's the one who also found out that the altenator was not factory. (Go figure gerb, :P I didn't see you said anything about it until I read it this time).

I'm going to have him check the actual amperage on the altenator, I want to see if my altenator is being taxed to heavily, and actually what amp output it is. I can get a 105amp one from autozone, or a 120 from an aftermarket company that my cousins up on the hill go through. So I'll find that out as soon as he gets back from his christmas vacation(I'm guessing he's with family seeing as he still drives around town) hehe

As a matter of fact, the car doesn't do too bad in snow. My other complaint, but it's working out is the E-brake being on the floor, but with the release being the pedal itself, I can still get a nice slide going :P

As for 3.8's hell yeah, my last car was an 88 delta 88 with a 3.8 in it, with the 3 vin instead of the c, so I had a 240hp version(The v had a split EST{electronic spark timing} system with about 15 less horses. Problem? two wheel drive insanity, wouldn't dare light them up on dry pavement. But gravel? Let's just call it matching trenches. It was funny, a friend said my car had "no balls" until that small wet spot when I smoked both fronts on the wet spot then left two nice blackmarks leaving into the dry pavement. I never did understand why that car didn't have limited slip or is it posi-traction? I can never remember the two's names. It was a TANK in the snow, omg.. go everywhere you pointed at.

As for fun in the snow, I'll leave that to the handheld ebrake in the escort. Small, lightwieght, goes anywhere in the snow(Last year proved this in over 1 foot of snow). At work where almost noone was in the parking lot, had a 180 going probably hit 160 and it decided to catch spun me sideways the other way, what fun . I'll get a 360 out of it someday I find a decent (non-sloped) parking lot

By the way, what model of the 3.8 you got? Is it the S???? I saw one in a bonneville at work, damn nice engine there. (The ECU should have a black cap(Or whatever you call that funky cage looking thing) instead of that flat gray.

Posted by: The-AoD

oops lol

I "quoted" my other post instead of editing, now it won't let me delete this post... LAGGY?!?! :P

Posted by: TheeMon

aod go back to plowing snow...

Posted by: The-AoD

Why do that Thee? Then I can't go have fun in it. :P

Posted by: Gerbilo

this topic kicks ass... let me say that

spork... GTPs are nice.. you running a pulley kit on there to up boost? or other goodies? i like those cars, they are just too much of a land yacht btw, there is a big diff between a 13.9 and a 13.0 low trap i'm guessing too hehe. btw, you dyno it?

AoD, i don't know how you could add more air with something like that, fuel yes, but, as i said, the problems above... air can only be added by opening the throttle plate... you can remove restrictions by having smoother flowing intake, this can lead to more air intake, but the intake temp sensor is still gonna be all screwy and add more fuel than air available. The O2 sensor is in the exhaust, for emissions.
the stronger alternator you should keep if you plan on adding the stereo, you might not need to buy caps then

snow is hella fun, the sport tires on my car make it even more rediculous, they are getting lower on tread, and dont like it when it's below freezing, so, now even when its really cold i'm getting a lotta understeer hehe. I love the handbrake though. Yay ghetto drifting. 360s are easy with it too if there is any snow one of my best was in slush too hah, i wanted to make a show for a friend who was at the other end of the lot, so, i just cranked the wheel, pulled the handbrake and floored it... car started spinning so fast and just shooting smoke out one of the fenderwells haha

Long live this topic!

Posted by: Spork Lover

AoD, the engine code is L67. That means its a Series II 3800 with a M90 supercharger. The black cover you are talking about is the engine cover I believe, mine is black plastic with the word supercharged written on it. The aftermarket Oxygen Sensor you mentioned isn't a performance mod.... depending on where it is located it measures for different levels of O2 in the exhaust and adjusts the fuel trim accordingly, or alerts you that your emissions system needs work.

The sensor modification you are talking about is a resistor that tricks the computer into thinking that it is recieving more air than it actually is, and the computer therefore tells the injectors to open up more and that in turn dumps more fuel in the CC's. This unbalances the optimal A/F ratio and it creates a rich condition. It is desirable in some applications (such as in forced induction) and overall isn't harmful or detrimental to the car, but if the car runs too rich it can burn piston rings. That mod won't cause that though.

Gerb

I know there is a difference... thats why I put "mid" in front of 13's 13.65 @ 100.26 is the best et. Can't really launch good, 60ft's aren't the best, I have to dig up some time slips to check but I think my best is 2.1 . I do swap out Supercharger Pullies, I use a 3.4 for daily driving, and 3.25 for the track. It has quite a few other goodies, Fiber Glass air intake (relatively new....as of october), 1.9 Rocker arms, 3 inch (inside Diameter) downpipe, High flow cat, and reprogrammed PCM. Thats all I have for power modifications. I have tweaked the supsension which helped out a ton, but nothing worthy of mention. It is a land yacht, but!!!!! It sure surprises everything on the road. A grocery getter that hangs with the likes of Trans Ams and Z28's. The first time I went to the track after modding it, I raced a S2000 and I beat the guy and afterward when we were staging again he walked over and had to see what I had because he thought he would win for sure. In the long run, I wish I would have just bought the 99 Ws6 I lusted after.....

Oh well...

What is this?

Edit: that was with my old crappy DC... haven't taken any new pics with the new DC

Posted by: Gerbilo

see, i told you it would make the A/F screwy! but.. now you can get some nawz.... won't lean ya out too bad

nice numbers spork... Yeah, throw some sticky DRs on the front and drop that 60' below 2 Pull all your spare stuff and get skinnies for the rears if you are really serious heh You still got a lotta stuff you can do, just remember.. bigger injectors if you up the boost, you don't wanna fry any pistons! hehe Lotta potential there, I think i have a vid of one running 10s.
And don't get too cocky from running an S2k in a line... it's a 2liter.. and not made for going in a line.. try it on the autox track haha.. just playin, those things can rip just about anything a new ******* in the turns though. and a 99WS6... oohhhhhh god... such a beautiful car....

nice pics btw, lets see some of them lightin them up!! And IL tags! i forgot that, I think i talked to you before about it, you are closer to STL though... right? btw, you can see anything of mine in the gallery section of the site... no cool pics though oh well hehe

Posted by: Gerbilo

Oh.. btw... are there good cam mods for your car? I know they can work wonders in those old 5.0s dunno bout any other pushrods like yours though.

edit: i saw the SIUE link... must be near STL or worse... hehe ewww.. edwardsville

Posted by: Spork Lover

Oh no worries about my mods, well researched . The stock injectors are good for the mods I have. I'll have to think about bigger injectors if I go to the next smallest pulley. I have read that the stock injectors are sufficient for my mods. I doubt I will add anything else to this car. It's big bucks in all directions. The Cam(s depending on car) and heads are the best way to see power gains in most cars, even mine. On most cars, if you swap out the cam you'll have to change the heads or port and polish the heads so that the head flow will match the cam or the gains will be minimal. There is a cam available on my car that promises it can add 60 HP, without modifying the heads (which is a really good gain). Problem with cams is that while they don't cost too much ($300), it requires the better part of a day for an install (4-500 in labor depending on where you go), and tuning time on a dyno. Im not willing to invest that..... I should have gotten the WS6

Oh and about the S2K....hehe he came to my playground, so I can brag ... he thought he could play but he couldn't. It wasn't a random stoplight race, but one at the drag strip.... so :P ... I won.... I have a neon for AutoX'n if he wants to try me at that !!!!

heh... Im not too hardcore, I don't drive on an empty tank of gas, nor do I empty out the contents of my car to race down the track... I like to know what my car will do in street trim. Well almost... I let a little air out of the front tires and overfill the rears...

I hope to get rid of the car soon for something a little more refined, but still having enough pep to satisfy me.... Im thinking a G35 Coupe with the 6 Spd. If everything goes as planned for the next yeat I'll have the G35 Coupe for going out and work and stuff, and an SRT-4 or a WRX to play in. Im keeping my fingers crossed.

hehe SIUE is close to my home and work... I make due with whats available!!!! and yes... ewwww edwardsville.....

Posted by: Gerbilo

Good to see well researched...
lol, neon on the autox... well, i suppose thats the same as seein a civic out there...
As far as cams, I just suggested since it only has one, cheapo hehe... mine only has one, but there is so much more to do before that... stupid honda for making cams with good profiles
Those G35 coupes are hella nice... it's a skyline, how can you go wrong! hehe
those SRT-4s are such rediculous bang for the buck, so fast for so cheap... just don't get one if you wanna keep it for more than 2 years. WRXs i love, but, i'd take an EVO over one

Posted by: Spork Lover

Evo is over the top.... its over styled, and the boy racer wing just doesnt appeal to me. Nicely packaged car and all... thumbs down on the styling :P ...

Is the Honda yours? Nice car. Im sure it will run for a million years.

You should ride in an SRT-4.... I have driven three, and while there are many neon parts in it, its pretty impressive. They have more power than Dodge advertises too. They are rated at 215hp... well the dyno slips I have seen show that some of these cars are putting 209 to the wheels...pretty nice numbers. Im swaying towards a turbo'd AWD car though. I wanted a S4 for a little while, I almost had signed some paperwork on one (an 01 Negaro Blue), but decided I would much rather have a brand new car.

Don't laugh at a neon on the AutoX!! One neon in STL has a Turbo 2.4L, and the guy that owns it says it puts out 330hp. Well last summer at Gateway Raceway, he was the second fastest car on the AutoX course for a Impala event, beating cars such as 2 vipers, 1 S2K, 1 NSX, 3 Vettes, couple of GTP's, mustangs, and Camaro/Firebirds, and a ton of Impala's. The only thing that beat it was an Impala that had a Lingenfelter built LT1, and put out roughly 700hp. I can't back up the hp claims, just know what the owners tell me....but either way that neon had to have some kind of brute under its hood.

Long live this thread!

Posted by: Bobaroo

Haha, awesome thread.

I like the SRT4 and all, but I can't get the fact that it is a neon out of my head, and ugh, i don't like neons. One of my favorite cars now is the RSX-S and the WRX STI, very nice cars, and the STI can really fly, and the RSX-S is not to bad, and with some work it will go.

Posted by: Gerbilo

ahh, you shoulda gotten the S4 hehehe, those are sex on wheels

The Civic in the pics is mine, the Accord, well, you can read the description on that hehe. Civic is nice for what it is, and the accord, well, i like to theive that as much as possible. Damn nice on the inside and... how can you go wrong with 240hp

Yeah, those neons got balls, what they need is an LSD... the new ones are gonna be rated at 230hp I think. Quick lil bastards, I have a coupla nice videos of them. One of them is the SRT-4 smokin the SRT-10 Viper down the 1/4 lol. I have a pic somewhere of one of those with a turbo the size of a damn basketball too lol, making big numbers.

as far as autox the s2k and the nsx should have done better! hehe, the rest i can imagine not doin so hot. Oh well.

As for the Evo, I like the styling as much as the WRX, and they can out perform the STi in everything but a straight line, and that is one of the easiest areas of performance to boost

AWD is a good option.. hrmm... that does really limit options... TT? i dont like them, especially when you can get an S4, but, hey heh.

Posted by: Spork Lover

I hung out with audi tuners at 12 Hours Le Man @ Sebring (2003) and they got me on the S4 kick. Their packages are amazing, but modding them is a nightmare. To change out the turbos its a 16 hour job (My friend is a Master Audi mechanic), which includes dropping the engine!

The new Srt4's do come with LSD's. Dodge is offering them stock, it was designed by Quaife (great company). I have those vids of the SRT4 owning at the track, did you know that its a girl driver? pretty kickass.

I like the styling of the WRX STi better than the EVO, I like the Subaru more than the evo, especially love that 6 spd, but I wouldnt pay for a car where a Stereo system is not Standard!!!! $30k for a car with no stereo? No slippin way.

My co-worker had a RXS type S, nicely built car, but I feel I can find a better buy for the amount that they charge for one.

Posted by: CowerFool

Does anyone know of any webpages which has good and solid information on anything about cars (in particular for a noob)? eg. differences between handbrake and the normal brake, stuff to look out for buying a car etc etc.

Posted by: Gerbilo

You can always ask any questions here, I know i'll try to help ya out and i'm sure that others will as well. www.howstuffworks.com always has something interesting, but may be a bit more than the basics.

16hrs for a turbo swap? jeeez.. damn germans lol...
yeah... video is called SRTgurl or something like that, haha, ... ahh, good girl drivers.. i love 'em... they are so rare lol

for the stereo, you can always fix that up aftermarket, and.. think... ferrari sells $300,000+ cars w/o a stereo if you had the money for one, i'm pretty sure you wouldn't care all that much hehehehe.

as for the RSX-S, helluva nice car, but as you said, a lot more bang for the buck out there lately. Then you have to realize the RSX is part of a luxury division.. and built by honda, so it will last a hundred billion miles haha.

Posted by: Spork Lover

Are you talking a bout the Enzo, f50 and f40? A thinly disguised race car is one thing, those cars are built for racing....but the WRX STi is a daily driving car.... Im already putting down 30K on it.... Im not gonna spend another couple grand to put in a stereo, speakers, and all associated wiring.

Drop a B18c-R in the civic, man will it fly

Posted by: The-AoD

Just a quick question for you. A "person" I know, who has proven to be much more of a bs artist than anything.. says he has a simple supercharger on his cavalier.. Didn't say anything about intake mods or anything else, just his stock motor with a supercharger. He "says" it has 400hp, but I noticed one day, when he attempted to "rack it out" or show off... He dropped it in first then tried to keep the tires spinning for second gear. He just about stalled it.. I doubt 400hp would drop that much power and just about die just in second gear going from a high RPM burnout to valve rattling stall point. Just a question, think it's true? lol

Posted by: Spork Lover

You can call BS on him just for the fact that he says he has a supercharger on a stock motor and it now has 400hp. You probably can double an engines output from slapping on a supercharger, but then its like a grenade.... when will it blow? From the way you say it is, I would have just started laughing at him and walked away, thats enough evidence right there.

Ask him to pop his hood an show you the blower.... see if he is willing to do that. look for a large metal object with a unpolished aluminum look on top of the engine

Posted by: Bobaroo

Bah Superchargers....

http://s87679613.onlinehome.us/files/h34rt.gifTurbo

Posted by: Spork Lover

Superchargers are great. Roots type superchargers make great low end torque! CSC superchargers are great for top end power. And Screw type superchargers are great for your whole powerband and pretty efficient at compressing air. Screw type superchargers don't make nearly as much heat as a turbo charger, and huge intercoolers isnt required. In fact the act of compressing naturally cools the air, its a exothermic process, the process gives off heat, and then the air charge passes through the intercooler and then dumped into the engine intake.

Turbos get too hot, and in alot of cars the plumbing for one turbo, let alone two, is a nightmare. Exhaust gases reach well over 1000 degrees and thats what drives the turbo. If exhaust gases are touching the turbo that means the turbo gets just as hot. If the turbo is hot then the air inside is hot, and hot air expands, and that means when you are trying to mechanically compress air mother nature is working against you. Then you have to cool the compressed air charge, and when its hundreds of degrees hot then you have to have a large intercooler.

They both have their downsides, like the fact that superchargers are belt driven and therefore leech engine power, but the power is on tap, as soon as you push the pedal the compressor spins faster and you are creating boost. Turbos are practically power leech free, but the power is not on tap, you have to wait (turbo lag) until the exhaust gases reach a certain velocity before the impeller starts spinning fast enough to make lots of boost. However a turbo car will not suffer from too much lag if tuned right. This is why some cars are twin turbo. One turbo is smaller and configured for low end power, while a larger turbo is for top end power. Some guys with large single turbos use NAWZZZZ to offset the lag too.

But supercharged cars (such as mine own) do not require that extra tuning, the boost is proportional to the engine speed

Posted by: The-AoD

Just like my dialup, turbo's lag :P

I know a tad about superchargers.. My cousins up on the hill had a nice "german named" super on thier 88 firebird project. They had a totally rebuilt 400 smally with alot of modifications. I really wish they would have dyno'd that engine. I know the friggin thing ran like hell though. Too bad they never totally finished that project. They still do occassional power builds for people, but nowhere near as much as when they used to take them to the quaker state tracks.

Which reminds me, I bet none of you will guess what car won decembers burnout competition in thier drag strip.

Posted by: Gerbilo

oh god... so much posting on this, i love it... but get so offtrack on what i was gonna say!!! lol
I'll just respond in order of what was posted.

Spork, lol, yeah, I think the 360 Stradale comes stripped of one as well, but again, racing car Just the the base WRX and throw on a VF22 turbo and be making that extra power back :-D

bob... why stop there? turbo F20C1 lol, nah, Not gonna swap on this, saving for something real... i've narrowed it down to ITR(or GSR turbo) or a Cobra almost bought the cobra, but decided i wouldn't have enough money down the road to make payments... which was true.... ugg.. i want my cobra....

AoD... spork is right, that guy is full of shit... most potent cavy motor made is from the old gens... 3.1l V6 155hp, my friend has a Z24, does have some pickup though... to get 400 outta that there would have to be significant work... in addition to big power adder, need new fuel delivery system and forged internals.

Between turbos and superchargers... turbos seem to be getting more and more popular as of late... partly due to import scene I beleive... but, in most apps, I'd take a turbo... SP88 like the size of a barn door! haha can't be that bad if it's making 1400hp on a near streetable 3.0liter
they are a bitch compared to SC most the time though....

won the burnout contest... minivan?

Close Gerbil, you may not believe this. It was a small 1987(I believe) Front Wheel Drive Ford Festiva, with like 6 kids in the back. I'm guessing next burnout competition will have rules against e-breaks and wieght limits. The worst part is, after they announced that the kids had won, they decided to flip over the small car on it's hood. Made the medium sized crowd go nuts. We even got to hear the announcer say "What kind of dumb (anusholes) would do such a stupid thing. It basically ended the races that night, since there was more glass than imaginable on the track. They really need to get a street course in there. The drags are sort of boring after a while. But I'll tell you, some people in this sport know thier ideas, and some don't. One guy has a `73 roadrunner.. He says there's over 20 grand under the hood. He was shown up something fierce by a stock 67 chevelle. And that chevelle was SWEET. Though, I didn't get much from the blueish purple crap paint.

lol, festivas rock! My friends bro has one layin around in his garage, i got an article in a magazine in how to drop a 1.6l mazda engine(FWD version of the miata 1.6) in the festiva... cheap and mean hehehe

I'm guessing you have seen or heard of that turbo caravan that can run 12s... did it at rt66 raceway in my area... i gotta find that guy haha....

mmmm chevelle... I was all over my friend's GF's roommate at a party earlier this year because she told me she had a 454 chevelle haha... mmmm...

Have you seen videos of the 10 second turbo k car? It was running against a supra that ran an 11.xx .... heh the big hurt was put on him by that K car, it ran something ridiculous, like a 10.3.....thats fast

blah @ old muscle cars. They require too much upkeep. Carbs are a PITA. I had a 85 Iroc that I decided to build "old school" I took out all of the engine management stuff ,and dropped in a 355, with an ungodly cam, and flat top pistons, and small cc heads for high compression. Well it made alot of power, in fact it was really cool to see this car idling so hard at stoplights that people looked over and said it sounded like a misfire or two. The hood would rattle, and the car would shake like it was having a seizure. I never kept pictures of the car in its finished state, but I did keep some sound clips and the car before it was finished.. I'll ahve to post some of those.

But back to my point, Tuning the carb on that thing was tricky, and I dont ever want to do it again.

Newer cars are nicer and the engines are more refined, the power isnt brutish like on a muscle car, plus newer cars ride much better, and plus they can turn!!!!!

Muscle cars are over rated anyway. Most people don't know this, but the way power was rated on cars was changed in 75-76. Before when power was rated it was without exhaust and without accessories on the engine. This is basically gross power. Then when they made the changes, when power was rated, accessories (Power steering, A/C, Alternator, smog pumps, etc etc) was included as was Full exhaust. What difference did this make? Somewhere between 10-15% difference. Thats why we can have these muscle cars that are stock with 350hp (such as a chevelle) run a high 14 on the track, while a little honda fwd car with 200hp beats it. NEat eh?

Edit: Here ya go as promised:

Pics: Pics are located here, there are other things in there too, feel free to look around, but the pics are in the new project folder. Oh yeah and that Trans Am was the one I was going to buy..

why the hell did you have falken ziex rubber on that camaro? lol... ug... i'm not sure if it's sad that i know that by lookin at the tread pattern.

mmm... love the sound of a cam

yeah, lol, i got that video of the Kcar... that is rediculous... flat out insanity haha...

Carbs are a pain, but, part of a muscle car... I don't think I would have one as a daily driver though.. I know my friend has a 66 stang and he is giving it to his uncle for a coupla years so his uncle can fix it up, but also because he can't drive it everyday... like today.. when there is a half foot of snow on the ground....

i still wish my dad had his old car though... Charger... with the 440sixpack 390hp 490lbft stock.... even before accessory losses.. thats a shitload lol... emissions killed that motor though... my dad is a bum too, and didn't know what he had... oh well...

Oh.... and the muscle cars were also slower down the track because they weighed about twice as much as my honda hehe

hrmm.. 200hp in an EF or EG hatch.. some slight weight removal and you are at 10lbs per hp... a stock mustang GT has slightly under 13lbs per hp hehe.... neat indeed

Wait, looks like a... Sounds like a... He confirms it's a... SMALL BLOCK!

Don't get me wrong but I do like the occasional small block, but the sound of a big block is much better. We used to have a 1982 e-350 box van, with a 460 topped off with a holley (I think it was an 850, but it may have been a 750) CFM 4 barrel. Attached to that was a C-9 4 speed auto. It "was" an ambulance at one time. I wish I still had it, I would definetly want to make some use to such a nice motor. Anything that could light up a set of 19.5 low pro dualies has to be making some serious power. Even though it was rated top speed of 90, and that was via the assemblers handbook as the ambulance was assembled after the chassis and cab was built. I drove it and ohh man, hellacious power behind that, and some serious getup too.

However, it still isn't my favorite engine. As for your discussion about muscle cars and "imports". There is no "competition" between the two. As you said, some of the older muscle cars did very well in a straight line, but lacked quite a bit in the whole thing they called turning. And imports, I don't care how much you tune them, how much money you toss into them, they still won't be in the same class. Just as with say, a 1969 Chevelle. They are two different beasts. Each have thier better suit. I do want to defend one car about something though. Any stock chevelle had skinny tires on the back. Considering, pushing over 400 horsepower, a set of 215/75/r15's wouldn't do too well on the whole idea of keeping the traction. That's what they make slicks for . I need to get a picture of the chevelle a guy who does work on our townships equipment. I believe it's a 71, has a 454 and a supercharger. He has a set of slicks on it, along with a traction bar kit and some other various modifications. His simple explination for the slicks goes, and I quote, exactly like this. "It doesn't go very well in the least in the rain, but with the stock tires, it didn't go very well anytime." And he chuckles about that too. It's a nice off white with a black set of stripes. I'd love that car.

Anyways for imports, don't get me wrong I like imports. I hate dalmer chrysler as well, so any neon to me, is just another neon. :P There's only about 4 cars I'd really actually drive every day. First being an RZ Supra with the Twin Turbo's, second a Mazda RX-7, 1996 model preferably, I just loved that interior and exterior. I also wouldn't mind a miata, seeing as how they look pretty nice. But of course last but not least in the least, a 2001 Aston Martin V12 Vanquish. Don't get me wrong, it's all in the look. I love the way that car looks and love the way the interior is done. That car is awesome.

Hey AoD,

Long time no see.

Nice car BTW.

I got a 93 Mits Eclipse. Needs a little work but it run great =) Plan on kicking her up a noch when I get the extra money tho.

Posted by: The-AoD

Heya Demonbob! and yeah, been a long time. Anyways, that 93, is it a GS couple? I liked those ones My car will never hit a race track, nor a drag strip. My car is basically a "nice ride" and it fits me well.

Posted by: DemonBob

Na normal coupe with a 1.8L 4 banger. Plan on droping a 2L 4 banger in it soon tho. Got a parts car from the junk yard for 400 stright up. Just waiting on the money for a few more kits to come in. Not to mention my supra euro lights (special order from Cali.). Plan on shaveing the back end smooth. And doing a supra tail light switch.

Posted by: Spork Lover

Supras are over rated. Too much fast and furious hyoe surrounds them. The power band in the car is completely unbalanced, when you can run a 12 second quarter mile, while trapping 120mph, something is wrong. Should be able to run an 11 sec time slip with that sort of a trap. RX7's are a better balanced car, but they are torqueless and rotary engines arent the best engines for reliability, heh trust me.

I would drive several imports, EVO, STi, S2000, Vr4, S4...etc etc etc. My favorite car at the moment is the new E55, if you dont know what it is let my know and I'll post a video you should see

Posted by: The-AoD

How big is said video? I'd like to see it.

By the way I got to talk to greg today and we saw some of his race records at the track. He had a 1981 Camaro totally redone. He spent well over $10,000 in the car, and he gets parts through his garage for that "Special low price" that most of us never get to see, including me. I'm guessing it'd have something to do with the few miscellaneous stickers on his cars Anyways 9.8 was the best with that car. He doesn't remember his top speed in the 1/4th, but his little... I can't remember how to spell plaque? said 9.8s 1/4th Quakerstate Drag Strip WV. I wish he was still into that stuff, I'd so like to do that stuff with him. Now he's more into fixing cars for profit, then having fun. I guess that comes with passing 35 on the age odometer. :\ He still has a 400 small block with dual holley 750's sitting on a rack in the garage. It's all chromed out and the block and heads are done in orange. He said he'd sell it for 4 grand lol. It's nice. The crank/cam/pistons/rods/bearings/heads/valves/rockers/springs/ect is all brand new. Only 3 things that aren't. Two heads and the block. Even the oil pan is new, it's still in the box that it came in I want that engine

And spork, as your idea on supras being overated. You have to admit they were nice cars. My uncle had an `87 supra coupe. I remember dad shifting out at 70 dropping the clutch and me hitting the seat like I fell onto concrete. I liked it. I'd love a `95 Supra RZ TT

Posted by: Bobaroo

Ooo Bob, an eclipse not bad. My Friend had a 1996 RS, a POS. But he was trying to find an AWD GSX, now those things are nice.

He sold it and now has a 300zx, but now wants to sell that...heh

Posted by: Gerbilo

One of my friend's work trucks has a 460 in it... he says it's awesome and just burns the rear like none other lol.

rotary motors die because their main seals die and it looses compression and turns into a 2cylinder powerwise hehe.. other than that, they are badass!

Supras... mmm... I love those cars. i got tons of videos of them too lol.... If i had the money and i had to pick... get my cobra and still have a few left over, or save a coupla grand more and get the supra.. hrmm.. that would be real tough heheeh..... SP88.... crank out 1400hp outta a 3 liter lol.

E55s kick ass... daily driver sedan... cruisin.. cruisin... floor it... all hell breaks loose lol...

Eclipses are nice... they just tend to have a lotta problems when they get up there in the miles... yay DSMs... i still like the older ones better than the new ones... how can you beat a turbo and AWD? hehehe.

ahh.. this topic kicks so much ass i can't even develop my sentences.. so you get whats above

Posted by: The-AoD

Well ... Your welcome... I guess. And 460's are powerhouses, god, for a big block... ohh hell yeah!

Posted by: Spork Lover

It 10.5mb

http://webpages.charter.net/sporksa...3cobravsE55.wmv

Supras are nice cars, just not the holy grail that everyone makes them out to be. I gave pretty good reasons why. Plus they are heavy cars. Truthfully I would rather have a 300ZXTT or a VR4 or a R/T TT. Supra prices are inflated from fast and the furious.

I wanted a GSX for a little while, and then I read about the problems with crank walk. That would suck.

Its not only the engine seals on the rotary engine thats crap, its the whole engine altogether, they have a hard time hold large amounts of power.

Posted by: Canis Lupus

I loved Supras way before F&F ever came out ... I was holding out on buying a used one after they discontinued em here in North America, but after that damn movie you can't buy one for what it's worth anymore

Nice footage on the E55 ... I don't particularly like Benzes as a rule, though ... too much "silver spoon up the ass" vibe about em

Don't we always revere the cars we can never have?

Posted by: The-AoD

Supra's look cool Specially those tail lights on the newest ones available in the US.

Posted by: Spork Lover

I would drive a new E55 any day of the week, silver spoon up the ass and all!!!!!

I have pretty much the same thoughts on Supra's. I was going to buy one before F&F, but the movie inflated their prices.... plus now they have this invincible aura surrounding them now... bah I hate what that movie did for cars, and car tuners. The sudden rise in the popularity of the supra is what drove me to look for a 300zxTT and a Vr4/ R/T TT. The same thing happened to the RX7...but that didnt break my heart.

Anyone like car videos (not dial up friendly)

Posted by: The-AoD

I see how it is... Spork doesn't like the dialup guy.. Hey now, I started this topic... and stuff.

I still like the supra, you're 100% right on the fact that F&F destroyed it. Ohh well, I don't care what "the crowd" thinks. I like what I like, and I'll stick to it

Posted by: Gerbilo

so true, F&F made a whole generation of idiots... man.. i need naws!!

Hrmm. I'll start posting random car vids in here.. I have 7gig of them... most are too big though, i'll see if i can get any cool small ones, even for dialupaod

Posted by: Gerbilo

btw, that vid is badass love the supercharger whine...

Posted by: Gerbilo

*bump*

c'mon, this topic is too good to die
