Actually Beck Hansen is who I'm refering too. You know, Loser, Where it's At, Devil's Haircut. He's got quite an interesting career and selection of albums. I've got respect for Jeff Beck, but much more this this particular Beck.

Pearl Jam
Tool
Soundgarden
Pink Floyd
Queens of the Stone Age
I like many more than just the above five, but I would say those are at the top of the list these days. Pearl Jam never moves from it's spot!

-luca turilli
-foo fighters
-alkaline trio
-the strokes
-dropkick murphys
they're not all rock bands, but those were just to name a few. I didnt think anyone else on this site listened to the alkaline trio. Way to go Gerbilo.

I've been listening to that disc not stop for the last 2 weeks. Good stuff...

I have a lot of favourites, I s'pose. Some of them are:
The Clash
The Who
Siouxsie & the Banshees
Black Sabbath
AC/DC
I guess. I dunno if I could say there's a definate order to favourites, though.
Posted by: mushmouth
If you dont own the complete masterworks of Tenacious D on DVD, then go out and buy it. Its a good investment, it might even be worth some money someday!
Posted by: Woo-Pah!
Wow, we have some good music on this board... Mine would be...
1) Nirvana
2) Soundgarden
3) Foo Fighters
4) AC/DC
5) Blink 182
I have tons of faves, but the top three on there are pretty solid. The others can be subject to change. Nirvana never will move though, it's been number one for a long time in my book.

Nocode,
What's the name of the Pearl Jam song (instrumental-no lyrics) that sounds like Jimi Hendrix & what cd is it on. I think its a Hendrix song but cant remember if it's their own version of it.
My last girl threw out all my albums (yes vinyl albums) out the door along with my strat, amp & wa wa pedal, on a very rainy night. That storm hit me from front & behind. I could only salvage a few as the Jack Daniels had the better of me and I didn't find Jimi's album until I ran over it with my Land Rover the next day. I've always thought that a bad omen and never got a replacement.
I've always liked Pearl Jam but gained a lot of respect for them after hearing that song.
Posted by: Gerbilo
ouch... that sucks man, you throw her out like she did your goods?
Posted by: rockshalton
You know it.
My LAST girl. The one I live with now (if you can call it that) is a real women and she likes my guitar playin'.
Posted by: Gerbilo
nice, i gotta find me one of them that isn't a dumb bitch

It's Billy Howerdel's band, Maynard just sings =x
As for my five, I'm afraid with a genre as all-encompassing as "rock" I'm mentally incapable of picking just five favorites.
Posted by: Xoncide
Counting Crows
Nirvana
Beta Band
Spoon
The Blue Oyaster Cult
Posted by: BooRadley
I can't believe no one else named the Clash. They're the only band that mattered.

True, but I was just posting it as a similar kind of thing, and thought it would make the most sense.
Kind of a if you like this music then check this one out as it's just as good.
Posted by: Spider
True enough, I knew what you were doing, but Howerdel doesn't get enough credit for it, a lot of people think APC literally is Maynard's side band.
Did you know they originally wanted a female lead vocalist? I would like to know who they had in mind for that.
Posted by: Tecil
Yeah that would have been interesting to know.
I'm sure they would have not have had the draw that they do with Maynard singing though.
BTW, in my opinion their new album surpasses Mer de Noms ten fold, and definetly shows that its not a Maynard\Tool side project.

Agreed

I'm pretty sure you are talking about Yellow Ledbetter, although it's not totally an instrumental song. It's not a Hendrix song but the guitar sound is deffinitely inspired by Hendrix. Hendrix is one of Mike McCready's, (the lead guitar player), biggest influences, which is completely revealed in Yellow Ledbetter.
If that is the song you are talking about, you can find it on their latest album entitled
Lost Dogs. It's a rarities/b-sides album that came out this past November. If you follow the above link, the site selling the album provides audio clips of each song, so you can check to see if Yellow Ledbetter is the song you were thinking of.
There's also a Live Album from 2000, that contains of version of Yellow Ledbetter that McCready does a version of Hendrix's Little Wing tagged at the end.

Well...guess I'll keep it strictly rock and keep punk rock out. Althought I prefer rap over anything, my 5 would have to be, in no particular order...
1)Def Leppard
2)Foo Fighters
3)Nirvana
4)Dokken
5)Twisted Sister (it's metal but I can't think of another one )
Posted by: CnCAddict
I always did like 'fill in the blank' questions...
1. In Extremo (rock/minstrel, check out 'Vollmond' one of their best)
2. Rammstein
3. Manson
4. PM5K...although they sold out and went all 'yay freedom' as of late...
5. ....Monster Magnet. Not because it's a favorite, but because no one else would say it...and they have at least two songs I could say I liked.....and I needed a number five.
Posted by: N.W.A_Kid
I remember the group Monster Magnet...hell if I remember any of their songs, though

it's a fairly broad genre

Everyone knows what ROCK is as a music genre, BUT you must understand that people give their favourite bands and recommendations still in the boundaries of ROCK....EBEN THEN if you reaaly want to be "precise" please tell us all what ROCK really is!

a large mass of stone forming a peak or cliff
a large stone detached from the mass; boulder
broken pieces of any size of such stone

Oh, you mean the music genre?!
Well...I think that started with Rock n Roll with Elvis Presley....
