The Phantom Materializes ... or did it?

Those who keep up with console news would know that the "much awaited" new console from Infinium Labs, named Phantom, is suspected to be an elaborate hoax because of the suspicious lack of information on technical specs and the hype behind its ambitious new features and capabilities.

Today, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, the Phantom was finally "revealed" ... somewhat:

After months of speculation and occasional derision, Infinium Labs has finally unveiled their Phantom PC game console at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Although the presenters never actually turned the machine on, they did display the first physical example of the console for the press to ogle.

The sample Phantom looked much like its concept art, a sleek if not ideally stackable package, with the now-infamous Viking-helmet logo on the front and an impressive array of video, audio, and data connections in the back. Visible were: optical, coax, and RCA audio outputs; S-video, composite, and component video outputs; and 4 USB ports, a 10/100 LAN line, and a cable modem input.

Still sounds suspicious to me, since they never actually turned it on ... might turn out to be just an aluminum box with knobs, switches and inputs. Guess we'll find out soon if the hype ends in awe, in disgust, or in laughter...

I move for a full investigation! Abscam!

what a scam. But if it is real it sounds like it will be mighty impressive. Thats IF it is real. I move the MOTION THAT WE WAIT! Lets not jump to conclusions YET.

Checkout the .PDF sheet about it on their website. They word it as if it doesnt come with a processor or hard drive.

The whole thing is just confusing.

question, what good is creating a fake console? what long-term good does it do the company? all it does is get the company's name out there and if we figure out it is fabricated, it could and probably would ruin the company. im thinkin it exists and they are just waiting for the "right" time to unveil any official information, even though that time is passing quickly...

There have been hoax's of much greater proportion than this(if it were a hoax), even Duke Nukem Forever is more a joke than the phantom right now. Until I see the thing physically turned on and running games, I wont believe it to be 'real'. They might have something together, but its no good if its not functioning. It was supposed to launch to retail last October/November, and here we are january at its 'unveiling' where they show absolutely nothing. We have been seeing what the thing looks like for months already, that was a waste of CES time. Their delaying for some reason, perhaps hiding that the thing doesnt work or that they have run out of money or something. I dont remember anything like this ever happening with any kind of product before.

The whole thing wouldnt bother me so much if they didnt always talk about how its the "Leader" and everything. It hasnt even been turned on publicly.
