I just upgraded my P4 2.53 chip and went to a Pentium 4 2.8 HT chip....
I only did this cause I got it for free, sold my 2.53...
Now I know there's not much different between the two in speed but I figured that I'd see some kind of increase with the HT technology. I'd also imagine that going from 533 to 800 FSB and going from 4x to 8x AGP would make some kind of a difference....
So far I don't see much progress, guess the only time you see a real change is when you jump from say a p3 to a p4......

Random question: Why would a supreme being have a gas mask? Couldn't you just, um, unmake the gas? Is there even a threat of gas attack in heaven?

On topic (The topic was not created to discuss his avatar and title, I presume): If you just boot up your computer with minimal processes, you won't see much of a difference. If you run programs with a little more oomph in them (High-end games, virus scanner, even a program designed to push the limits), you'll see the difference.

Yea, I just played Call of Duty and it seems to run a bit better... more smooth...
I guess HT is nice to have, but again I think people could save themselves a few bucks and go without it

Hyperthreading is only supported in the motherboards with chipsets that support the hyperthreading protocols. But basically in windows98/me you'll notice basically no difference. Where you will see a difference is in win2k and xp. Basically the cpu simulates a "Dual CPU" setup. Running two threads at once, instead of just one. The most gains you should see is where the multitasking environment is. Say running a CD--> mp3 program while watching a dvd I myself want a 2.8C HT Nice cpu there, the best per price ratio right now
