screen problem with some games

I have a winxp computer with a geforce 440 video card. When the computer boots the hardware screen is distorted with th vertical sides curved outward. Everything after that is normal. This is not a big deal. When playing simcity 3000 unlimited or simcoaster the curved vertical sides return. Every other simcity game and program has a normal screen. Can anything be done for these two games? I don't want to change the monitor settings and mess up the other 99% of programs that work fine. Thanks for any suggestions.

Perhaps there are screen geometry settings in simcity.
