Anyone have a fish tank

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Just out of wonder. I have spent my weekend starting my first serious freshwater fishtank. I bought a smaller tank about 2 months ago, a 10 gallon, to train myself on how to keep fish and proper care and what not. Well I went and bought a 30 gallon tank this weekend and Im having a blast. Throughout this whole semi hobby I have been kind of shooting from the hip and buying things on impulse. For instance I bought a convict cichlid without fully researching the fish. Yeah not a good idea, he will get too big for the tank in no time.

Then I bought a Figure eight puffer fish. I have been doing some research on it, and I asked alot of questions at the pet store. The pet store said it will eat regular flake food, and that it would be ok with the Cichlid. Yeah well after a little reading I found out that the fish likes live worms, shrimp and snails. Nice job Petco. So I will be dumping my cichlid soon, and finding some food for the puffer. Im not that upset about the puffer liking live food, I think it will be a more entertaining fish now.

Oh well, tommorrow is a new day, and I will have some puffer food, and some new tank mates for the puffer.

Anyone have advice or want to share their experience with freshwater aquariums?

I used to have a fish tank in my room, but I never really took care of it. Actually, I had a fish that was so dead, the bones were almost deteriorated (spelling?). Yummy!!

Thats animal cruelty....

Problem with society is that they disregard animals because it seems like they don't feel the same pain or joy humans feel... its wrong

Well, they don't ... they feel it their own way ... unless you can tell me of a fish who laughs at Jay Leno jokes... so lighten up...

Jay Leno's jokes arent funny, thats why fish dont laugh at them

I have been wanting to get a saltwater fish tank for years. Both my uncles have always been into fish, they have huge and many tanks in their house(one also has a coy pond that takes up half his backyard, and he keeps expanding it). What I really want is a shark. Theres a breed of hammerhead that is small and thats my favorite shark, it would be perfect. About 2 years ago there was a pet shop going out of buisness and they had a huge sale. They had this 200 gallon tank for $150(with the stand, yes $150). I bought that thing in a split second and its been sitting in the basement ever since. Hopefully someday I can afford to get a salt water sanctuary going. Ive thought about selling the tank, I could easily get $900 for it probably more as its in absolute perfect condition, but I just cant part with it.

I have another smaller tank(50 gallon) that I was gonna put a bunch of those UV reactive goldfish in, but their illegal in California. I had a chance to get 2 dozen for cheap too, Ive even got the lights for it

yeah i have had fish in the past, in the next month or two im going to go all out, and have like 2-3 55gal tanks, 1(or2) will have pacu and parina the other will have other fish like conficts oscars pacu siclets(dunno) and a bunch of other semi aggrisive fish, and of course pacusamus(the sucky fish) but imma have like 20 of them, and the parina and pacu and sell them when they get bigger

when i mean pacu and parina i mean like 10-20 of both, oh and jay leno's jokes are funnier then any other late night talk show, + headlines are the shit

Guess you have showed that you too have little regard for animals and their feelings.

I'm just keeping it real

Not for long you won't. I have a 55 gallon tank and I had a Pacu in it until I moved. It got too big for the tank. All I had was the Pacu and a Placo (sucker fish), but the Pacu got too big. Leaving a fish in a tank too small will stunt it's growth, but it also stresses them out and they die. A Pacu can grow to be about three feet long in the proper environment. Don't get a Pacu unless you get a much larger tank. If you do get a Pacu, don't try to squeeze two or more into one 55 galong tank.

Also be aware, they eat everything. And I do mean everything. They eat vegitable meat and anything else. You can't keep plants in the tank once they grow large, because they'll eat them.

Right now I have an African Cichlid that's about 6 inches long. I need another Placo, but I'm afraid the Chiclid will eat him. One good thing about carnivours is that you can buy a dozen feeder fish and drop them in if you're going out of town. You don't have to feed them every day if you leave live food in the tank. I feed mine pellet food, but also live food. A little of both. When I go out of town, I just make sure he has plenty of live food to pick from.

Whe you set up your tank, make sure you have a good filtration system, and make sure that whatever filters you get, you can get replacements for at a variety of stores. I have both an under gravel filter and over the back filter, plus one bubble maker to keep the water aerated. Get some kind of a sucker fish, too. It'll make life a lot easier. Now that you mention it, I need to clean my tank pretty badly.

im only keeping them untill i find ppl to buy them, and yeah i can keep like 10-20 pcu/parina in the tank(along with pacusimus[hey i sounded it out] fyi nothing will eat these), i generally know about pacu/parina ive had a few, no more then 2 at a time but yeah ive had them... i wanna buy a bunch get them big then sell them, fun to play with fun to watch them eat fast growers quick cash, anyone wanna buy a large pacu/parina in a few months (hopefully the end of the summer)

i have a 30 gallon freshwater fishtank and have a 4 jap carp in them for about a year now. i once have 4 pacu before they got really big for the tank and i pity them having no space to swim so i sold them to my neighbor who have a bigger tank twice the size of what i got.

i also tried saltwater/marine once buying all the nice looking anemone and clownfish, angelfish i could fancy and they only survived for 3 months.

My sister and her boyfriend together probably have a half dozen tanks of varying sizes. Josh's being the biggest for his turtles.
I had a 25 gallon with some freshwater sharks about 7 years ago, they died becuase of a disease in the tank, but they were cool as hell. Never could ween them off the blood worms and onto the feeder fish though.
