Verto GeForce2-MX 400 PCI problems

I recently purchased a new monitor for my sons computer. Computer is an HP Pavilion 8570 C and the monitor is an HP mx703. Initially the monitor and computer worked just fine. We had not used the computer for awhile so I proceeded to update his Windows XP and other software. I believe I was in the process of updating his bios when a message came on the screen informing that the computer was going into powersave mode.

When I started the computer up again I got a long beep followed by two short beeps which I believe indicates a problem with my video card. I checked to make sure the video card was seated firmly in the socket. I tried unhooking the monitor and tried to start windows in safe mode but I can not get past the beeps. After the beeps the computer appears to boot up properly as it checks the floppy and cd rom drives and proceeds with what sounds like a normal start up. When I hook up the monitor to either the PCI card or the monitor port on the back of the PC, the power down warning appears again.

Does anyone have any useful suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I had a similar problem usually caused bu straining the case connections. I wound up diagnosing the problem as a loose connection on the motherboard. This problem occurs nearly every time I open the case and have to swing out the motherboard. It did it to me when I upgraded the memory, when I upgraded the HD and when I upgraded something else ...the cpu fan, that's it. (It was SO noisy, I replaced it and now use it to scare off varmints). Basically anything that strains teh case latch seems to cause it. Different levels of the problem are
-BIOS & Beeps, completely blank
- Blue INVENT screen comes up and stays.

Just go see if you can re-seat all the connectors.
Heck I don't know but it is worth a try.
It's a good box but I wouldn't buy another one. HP support is spotty, but they always have drivers available if you need them.
