My windows update stalls at the "preparing to download" box. I've found a post on here (http://www.opentechsupport.net/forums/archive/topic/13061-1.html) with some recommendations sadly, none have solved the problem.
If there are any other suggestions it would be a tremendous help...as it stands now I have 13 critical updates outstanding and cannot update.

Have you tried updating your Internet Explorer to the latest version?

I recently had this problem on a windows98 machine. search around on the knoledge base, theres a lot of articles about this.
