"Fuzzy" Sound in Half-Life

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Ok, I'm playing a game just like normal, right, and all of a sudden, my crystal clear sound becomes distorted. To be as metaphoric as I can, it sounds like there's a bunch of gravel stuffed into my headphones/speakers; there's constant interference. When I join the game, it's fine...it can be fine for the entire game, but sometimes, at random times, it becomes weird like that. I've played using both headphones and speakers, so it's not the peripheral hardware's problem. Any ideas?

Thanks,
RaXoR

Two questions: What make is your sound card? Have you tried using onboard soundcard (if you have one/aren't using it)?

I am using on-board sound already. The motherboard is that popular Asus A7N8X Deluxe.
