Problem with Compaq a1500 on Windows XP?

If your Compaq A1500 doesn't work in XP when printing here is what you do. Every time you want to print go up to File and select print. That should give you the print screen. Under Page Range choose Pages and then input however many pages you think it will be. Try to under shoot.
Why does this work? I think what is happening is something akin to a buffer overflow. The printer thinks it is printing 65,000 pages and it can't handle it. If you try the above in WordPad you'll see that under Pages in Page Range it states: 1-65535.
Then again I am no expert.
