Windows Update Problem

Hi,
I am having problems updating my Internet Explorer. I am using version 6, SP1, and when I go to the Windows Update, all I get is a blank screen. Any ideas? I've tried searching and doing the things recommended by Microsoft, but nothing helps. OS is Windows 98 SE.

Close all running programs (including antivirus and any script blockers you have installed), delete temporary internet files and all offline content when prompted. Go to add/remove programs, find Microsoft Internet Explorer in the list and click the remove button, choose the repair option and click apply and/or okay, reboot.
You may also have spyware problems, so use CWShredder first then Spybot Search and Destroy, update SSD before running its' check for problems, use add/remove programs to uninstall any spyware containing programs and use CWShredder and SSD to clean up the leftovers (CWShredder should be run first because if any variety of CoolWebSearch is present, SSD could complicate its' removal).
