i gues either A or C

Good theory.

Posted by: momser

C - if D saw 2 white hats, he would have called out.. therefore he see's one of each.. C sees a white hat, therefore he is wearing the black hat

Posted by: TheeMon

boom momser wins i knew C was prolly it i just didnt get that far

Posted by: laborat

momser!!!!! hugs....

Posted by: Radiator

But... C doesn't know it for sure cuz it could also be that he has a white hat since he can only see the one in front of him. so it could also be that he thinks that he and B wear white hats and A and D wear black hats. And then there's the fact that D is only 50% sure cuz he can only see 2 of the 4 hats... this is confusing

Edit: no wait your right i wasn't thinking correct

Posted by: covenantazkiker

i guess its D - because he sees both hats of B and C.

where do you get these riddles??

why is it c?? i get that if d sees 2 same color he would have called it but c.... he knows he wears diferent color than b but he only knows color of c and b

Posted by: Kibbles'n'Bits

o nm i get it

I think A calls out his hat color because back in the day the bad kids had to stand facing the wall alone while wearing a black dunce cap. Clearly, he has done some kind of thing wrong cause he's getting executed. He saves himself by recalling the lessons of history.

lol Took me a while to understand how momser got it. BTW Hi Momser

Anyways...

D would have called out if he would have seen two of the same color hats. Such as black, then he'd be wearing a whitle one along with A. He's the only one who see's two hats. He didn't call out anything, so C could be 100% sure that he and B didn't have the same color hat. So therefore, since B was wearing the white hat, he had to be wearing the black hat because D didn't say anything.

Good job Momser. Good riddle too Outlaw

I was all excited at having solved the problem, and then saw momser beat me to the punch. (HI MOM!! )

The smart stupid approach:
Well it's really only a call between C and D, since A and B have no information whatsoever. And since D's the obvious answer, it can't be right.

See, those SAT classes were useful.

The smart approach:
It's not a question of probability (which was what initially hit me when seeing the problem). So that leaves only what each person knows based on what he thinks the others know. Once you get that step, the problem solves itself.

The best approach:
I like 9er's answer. It makes more sense than logic. Stupid logic.

Uh, it's only one. I found it on another forum and thought it was a good one so I posted it here.

By the way, wouldn't it be funny if D was retarded? That sure would've made C think twice before calling out anything.

That's why 9er's answer is the best.
